    Hi,

I’ve been using JA Wall for over a year now for my travel site (http://www.portugaltravelguide.com) but since upgrading to the latest version of Joomla yesterday (namely 3.4.1) it has become very slow to appear each time I try to access it, particularly the home-page.

Is there anything I can do to speed it up? The previous version worked fine.

Many thanks in advance for all your kind help and suggestions.

    Hi there
Have you checked with NET ?
Which part of your site is slowed ?
    – Server respond ?
    – Client process ?

    Thank you,
    Viet Vu

    Hi Viet,
    Thanks for responding.
It’s just the home-page that’s slow. Click-throughs to other pages on the site are of a satisfactory speed.
I didn’t have a speed problema with the previous Joomla version, not even with the home-page.
Excuse my ignorance but what’s NET?
    Regards,
    Mark William

    Hi there
    # Please try to optimize your server
    # Check with your sysadmin to determine if server under heavy usage.

    Thank you,

    Thanks again Viet.
I’ve just optimized the site in the control panel of my server, then I activated Gzip Page Compression in the Joomla backend.
I’m sorry to say that it hasn’t made any difference to the very slow home-page access speed. The rest of the site is fine.
How does it seem your end?
    Regards,

Have you tried check your site into another server ?

    Thank you,

Generally I’m happy with the hosting package I’ve got. I haven’t had any problems up until now.
One thing I might do is try reducing the number of articles that first appear on the home-page. At the moment’s it’s about 40.
Do you know how to do this? Maybe it’s in the Template Manager?
    Thanks again.

    Hi there
    # You can try to enable Joomla! debug and see queries.
If it’s so heavy. Than time for optimize.

But at first you’ll need to check server side .

    Thank you,
    Viet Vu

It seems the problem is the database. Is there a quick and easy solution to solving the queries?

When I first updated my Wall install to 3.4.1 mine was really slow too. After checking and optimizing the cache, enabling gzip etc it was faster but still not quite as good. I then removed a few extensions that I was no longer using before finally optimized all my db tables using phpmyadmin all is much better.

    Thanks Phil.
I don’t suppose you’d be kind enough to guide me through the phpmyadmin optimization process. I’m in there now but not sure what to do exactly.
    Thanks again.

    Hi Mark,

It is always prudent to backup your db before any tinkering.

To optimize the tables select the database you are using by clicking on it in the left hand column. In the right pane you will see a list of all your tables. At the bottom there is a “Check All With” option. Hit the check all button to select all the tables, the using the dropdown select “Optimize”. Finally press the “go” button at the bottom right of the screen and it will carry out the task.

There are extensions on the JED that will do this automatically at a set period for you.

    Thanks Phill.
    I did what you said.
In the most of the cases, I got the message ‘Table does not support optimize, doing recreate’, so I don’t think the process helped.
I was fine before upgrading Joomla.
Please let me know if there’s anything else worth trying.
    Best regards,
    Mark

    Hi there
    I would suggest you
    – Do backup
-Try on another server or localhost
    – If another server / local working fine. It’s mean your current server have troubles.

Ask your sysadmin to work on it.

    – If it’s still slow it’s mean site slowed by itself
    – Check queries / page
    – Check how large of site

    Thank you,
    Viet Vu
