When I link to a content item, how can I make sure that the full path will show up in the breadcrumb display?

How I want it to appear…
Home > Section > Category > Content Item Name

How it sometimes appear…
Home > Content Item Name.

On a menu I created one link does it correctly and the other leaves out the section. But both links were set up the same. I can’t figure where you control this.

This is because your content is a typed content and does not belong to any section/category

By default, every content item has a section and a category. So why is it that if I link to a content item, the breadcrumb display does not show its path. In order for the path to be shown, I have to link to the content item by adding a menu item to the mainmenu. Can anyone shed some light on this? Is there anyway to change this?
