Yes, you can if you are prepared to alter some css and graphic files. Virtuemart integrates with nearly all later JA templates, but it does integrate better in those templates that have been designed for a cart, Zeolite II Mesolite II Labra etc may suit your cart needs better than Lead?

I would not see any problem in using Virtuemart with any templates (either Joomlart or others). Its just a component and blends well will the default template styles.
I am running Virtuemart on JA Raite without any issues. and regarding the cart (as shannon says), its just the matter of special styles, One can buy custom made cart modules for Virtuemart, which are quite cool in looks. I am using one on JA Raite >> http://www.newgreencleaningsupplies.com
