Hi,
I am using the game version of the JA Zinc Template. When I observe the performance of the website, I realized that it loads the original (default) template images and game temlate images at the same time.
When I have deleted some of the default template images which I am not using, my main page decreased from 850k to 250k. That’s a huge difference. I am sure there are some other changes that could be made in the template.css as well.
I have modified the template by deleting these images. Other than that, as far as I remember, I did not make any changes on the template and the css.
Please advise,
HakanNote: Still, I believe that, it was one of the best templates that I could have bought. Thank you for all the Joomlart team! Keep up the good work.

August 27, 2009 at 4:56 pm #315470Dear hakana,
One question >> When you say you deleted the images from the template? Do you mean to say that you removed the Image references from the css files? If yes, then its good.
If you have just deleted the images from the folders, then also they would be called and searched for by the css file and which shall result in more 404 errors, which again affects your Site performance. If i was you i would have made sure that only the references from the css file of unrequired images are removed.
Tip : If you do not use default typography provided with the template. then you can delete the references of typo options from the typo.css file. That will help you in decreasing your Site loading time, Number of CSS Images and Number of HTTP requests. It should give you upto 20-30 % boost in site performance status.
Removing comments, white space or optimizing css files after taking due backup before editing (maintain an original copy), will again be a boost.
Activating cache and Gzip compression from Joomla backend Global Configuration will be of added advantage.
Best of Luck.

August 27, 2009 at 6:04 pm #315477Thank you Arvind,
Actually I only deleted the images. I did not know that those 404 requests would slow down the site performance. I will now go through the css and remove all the links to those unnecessary files.
Frıom time to time, when I used gzip compression, some applications gave error (not in your template), that’s why I generally prefer not to use it. If you have further comments about this, I would like to hear.
Are you intending to renew or update the template according to my comments? Or shall I do it on my own?
Thanks again,

August 27, 2009 at 6:32 pm #315479Dear hakana,
I am not sure, if JA would change the template codes based on your or mine request. As JA provides templates which are supposed to work in almost all kind of operating environment. Thats why they are well commented and are a bit heavy. As compared with other Template groups, JA templates are still far superior in performance issues. Except Teline series, as it involves loading more JS and Css files.
Its simple, More features / More options / more configuration >> makes a template heavy.
Besides, we the users can invent and find unique ways of using a template, which might even test the template functionality or capabilities.
I would however try to bring this post of yours to the eyes of developers and lets see if they find it suitable to change the codes. But as far as i see JA provides fully loaded templates, which are open to users editing and customization.

August 28, 2009 at 2:33 pm #315562Hi Arwind,
At the beginning:
Total HTTP Requests: 125
Total Size: 817759 bytesNow:
Total HTTP Requests: 74
Total Size: 243095 bytesNow I will work on why the template needs to use the below system templates:
templates/system/css/system.css
templates/system/css/general.cssI just think that the they might be creating some duplication as well. (some css’s seem to be overwritten by the after-loaded template css)
If you have some comments, I would appreacite.
