January 7, 2009 at 11:26 pm #136850Hello everyone,
I started my Journey on building a website about 3 months ago. I Knew nothing about Joomla or what a CMS was or even how to build a website. Well coming across Joomla’s forums and Joomlart members I was able to start building my website.
I wanted to build a option trading site that follows unusual option activity. What is that? Unusual option activity is options that normally trade in a certain volume of contracts a day, all of a sudden has unusual amounts of buying of calls or puts. Why does this matter? because in trading the big players are hedge funds or institutional companies referred as “smart money” since they control the market this is where some of the best ideas can come from. When they are looking to move a stock or option they usually leave a foot print because they buy or sell in such volume an option that trades a 100 contracts a day all of a sudden traded 50,000 contracts that day shows that they could be interest and is unusual. They’re 100’s that that come across my screen a day and I look at every reason not to do the trade by applying a blend of technical analysis and fundamental analysis. the few that I don’t weed out I post them to paying subscribers in my trade blog.
I am still working on my site everyday altering it to be as clean and user friendly but, I would like feedback on the look at feel and if I am achieving that goal.
Site inner buildings;
Ja_Purity template
CC_newsletter
Layout blog override by masterchief
Amember as my subscription processorFor paid members:
Custom made Ajax module that refreshes every 15 seconds for real-time posts
shout box for traders to chat through the trading dayIf anyone is interested seeing the paid area PM me and ill give you a username and password.
Thanks everyone,

January 8, 2009 at 9:42 am #285376Hi,
I believe that you need some pictures in order to create first great impression. If you have difficulties to get them, try bigstockphoto.com, a true loyalty free image bank. Somemore they are really cheap.

January 8, 2009 at 1:13 pm #285438Hi, for a first site, very good. I’m sure you feel good about it too. Quite an accomplishment. A few pictures may help, but then again, people going to this site, don’t do it for looks but for information. the pictures would make it more apealing though.

January 14, 2009 at 3:09 am #286310Hi there,
Like you said, content is important, but you could possibly add a few pictures.
One example would be to add some modules “left” on the front page, or “home” The modules could have some news, or some more info about the site, or some different oppinions about analisys and trading, some graphs of the latest week or year of trading. There are ways to not only have text also on a site like yours.
Even the way you have it now, there could be some small thumbnail images on the News module on the right, together with the title links.
These are just some suggestions. I hope you find them helpful.

January 16, 2009 at 8:56 pm #286846Lots of info need some more graphics images etc……
April 19, 2009 at 1:53 am #301814I like the compact header with the login and extra info bar…
I like the content left justified…
IMHO – I would not utilize the left navigation frame for pictures…
Instead, I would add some caption pictures in the stories that would be naturally left justified…
This would suffice and lend the eye to view a balance between the right and left…. and still allow for content – I would suspect that content drives all options and it is not about the pictures…
The caption pictures could be kept at 120×120 or slightly bigger….Great site for your first Joomla…..

April 19, 2009 at 11:54 pm #301917hard to believe first site and looks alright ๐
October 21, 2010 at 8:21 am #359797The emergence of powerful, flexible, Open Source CMS’s is truly a revolution in web technology. Firms like Interwoven, Broadvision, and of course Microsoft, have in the past dominated the CMS market with offerings that start at Euro 12,000 (plus plus PLUS)! Whilst it may seem too good to be true, highly functional CMS platforms are now available without licensing costs. It is true!
Today, a website can be developed with Joomla as the best backend CMS for free.
I have developed a website (Options Trading) based on the Joomla CMS as base and modified to fit the purpose. Joomla offers so much flexibility:-
-
CMS offers the best platform to develop sites that meet all the SEO requirements.
-
HTML layout is well formed with no nestled tables making it easy to read for crawlers.
-
We can ensure that URL’s do not have any query strings. The URL’s can be of the type http://www.igmarkets.co.uk/cfd/volatility-options.html Such URL’s are extremely Search engine friendly.
- Meta keywords can be defined at a global level (across the site) and also at page level.
With each release, new features are being added to make it easy to work with.
October 21, 2010 at 8:42 am #359804I have developed a website with Joomla templates too (Trading Online) and these are the key accomplishments for K2:
1. All Joomla template providers now support K2 by default on all new templates that they release.
2. Itโs the first extension to have passed official security/code auditing by the Joomla core team in order to be used on the Joomla! Community Magazine
3. K2 was the first component in the Joomla! community to get an award for component of the year at the Joomla! and Beyond 2010 conference that was held in Germany this year. (full story here)
4. K2 has been downloaded over 350,000 times in the last year and a half and has been translated into dozens of languages. It is also one of the top extensions in the Joomla Extensions Directory.
5. The Joomla Extensions Directory contains over 130 extensions that makes use of or link into K2 content in one way or another which is a huge accomplishment for the component.
6. K2 powers two of the worldโs top Joomla websites in absolute visitor count. They are Gazzetta.gr and TNAWrestling.com.October 21, 2010 at 9:19 am #359811I do agree with holderburg that optionsizzle is really effective, simple and also quick and easy to use. Although I do not like the content left justified, I prefer it justified but I like the compact header with the login and extra info bar
Anyway it looks really good for being the first one. I also have created a website (CFD trading) based on the Joomla CMS. It is really easy to develop and it has being adapted to our necessities. Have a look at the site and tell me what you think. ๐
