May 29, 2009 at 10:36 am #141530Here is what I have done with Quartz.
There is still quite a bit to do and I have a little training for the site owner to do as he keeps pasting text in from Word and screwing up the fonts/layouts etc. There are also some old articles from the old site to fiddle with to get them to display properly in this template.
I’ve had to make quite a few changes to the overrides to get the layout for the front page to work as I wanted but I think it works.
Thanks to Scotty for his coding advice on getting the pitures to link to articles.

May 29, 2009 at 12:11 pm #306109I think you won’t dig to my comments at all, but the module headers in black, they do not make the site gentle. Yet the black header looks okay, and it may have been a thought to combine the module headers with the same color, but it design wise, it breaks the view on the content having black module headers like that on this site. I would rather use some matching pattern style in some light color.
Good luck with your site!

May 29, 2009 at 12:29 pm #306111Coming along very nicely Phil…Keep it going.
Will pop back now and then to see what progress you’re making 😉
Just one thing the font colour on the spotlight boxes could do with some work…make it easier to read

May 29, 2009 at 5:12 pm #306136I agree with both of you. Unfortunately I am under the constraints of the owners choices. I’m sure you know how some customers can be.
I will however adjust the spotlight font shade a touch. He probably won’t notice that.

May 30, 2009 at 1:02 am #306167Nice work. I like the sponsors section and how the logo’s go to colour when you hover over them.
FYI I got a 404 when I clicked on gallery…I’m assuming you just havent added the page yet.

May 30, 2009 at 4:51 am #306178Hi Phill
Looking good. Personally, I’d probably publish another two articles per page as there’s a whole chunk of blue space underneath the bottom article. Another two would have it lining up with the ‘whos online’ module a bit better.
Nice job, good looking and easy to navigate site.

May 30, 2009 at 6:41 am #306186Hi Phill, Nice looking work there. I don’t know, but maybe you have a reason for making the favicon red when the main icon on the site is blue?
Also on my screen, the top four spot light pictures don’t all fit, so that they go on two lines. The text also in these, some of the headings are two lines, but they only show 1 line at first. With mouse over, and the text goes up, the ones with two lines in the heading don’t show all the text. Maybe this is also because I don’t have a wide screen. Just some observations.
Good luck with the site.

May 30, 2009 at 7:27 am #306187Thanks for the heads up on the gallery, I forgot to move the folder, now fixed..:-[
The top spotlight headers I had nice titles that fit the boxes, then the owner changed them. Fortunately I am not the type to get frustrated by this…. Honest guvnor.
And yes, I shall try and persuade him to put bigger articles in to take up a bit more space.
Thanks for the comments.

May 30, 2009 at 8:04 am #306192The font size on the last two fontpage articles (when you press page 2 0f 2) are looking too large and out of sync with the rest of the items

May 30, 2009 at 8:12 am #306194Cheers, I’m working on that. Unfortunately, the person that uploaded all the articles coppied them from word so I have to spend some time removing all the silly formatting it has added.
Fortunately there are not too many articles yet. But he keep adding them even after I tried to traind him in the ways of the world. Where is Yoda when I need him.

May 30, 2009 at 8:19 am #306196You can lead a horse to water and all that…..:D
Can’t they do what they are doing if they use the same font in word as is on the site?

June 1, 2009 at 8:49 am #306383I have to agree with what others have said about the mask on the four pictures at the top of the Home page.
Maybe it would look proper if you increased the mask by enough pixes to show 2 lines for the title?
Otherwise, as I said, really sharp looking site.
