February 26, 2012 at 1:13 pm #174307Hello,
I am new to here , and I have just purchased a membership in order to get help.
I have downloaded the template from the web , and even before buying a membership , in order to test it , and especially because my site is in Arabic – RTL, and I guess there is no so many question regarding your RTL version which I guess has few problems.I am using Joomla 1.5.
Please help me with the following questions:
1. I want to upgrade my template to the latest version of JA_TELIN – How can I do that?
2. Does upgrading will make me loose all my customization??
3. There is few problems with the directions of RTL , and especially in the right side modules and Tabs – which they should be aligned to right and not left.
4. Does the latest version of this template on Joomla 1.5 support themes?Let us solve this problems first and then we will go on.
I hope also that I will be able to give the best versions for RTL.. I am software engineer and can help 🙂Thank you

Hello waelali,
Welcome to the party. When you say you will upgrade to the latest version, you probably mean Teline IV running on Joomla! 2.5? In that case a good start might be this guide on the joomla.org website. Good luck!Kind regards, Steinar.

Hello friend,
okay, you have established that you want to stay with Joomla! 1.5. But which version of the Teline template are you running now? III? II? I don’t think anyone can give valid advice without knowing this.
Make sure you have the current version of J1.5. That is 1.5.25 (Keep in mind that this version will be supported with security updates only until April 2012).

It is JA_TELINE_IV
Make sure you have the current version of J1.5. That is 1.5.25 (Keep in mind that this version will be supported with security updates only until April 2012)

It is Joomla Version 1.5.22 – which is pretty good and stable… I will use commercial antivirus for security – which is specified for joomla, and I will configure the htcacess file for better security.Next sites I will use Joomla 2.5 to know it better.

February 28, 2012 at 12:56 pm #440599Joomla 1.5.22 is a little old now and you should update to Joomla 1.5.25 as there were some security fixes needed.
Are you aware that support for the Joomla 1.5.x line is due to end very soon?
As for updating, you should not looses any changes as long as you use the JA Extension manager to carry out your updates. Make sure you update the JA Extension manager first then the JAT3 plugin followed by all the other JA products and finally the template. Before you start any of that you must take abackup of your site (files and database) and for this I recommend the excellent Akeeba Backup, a free package that backs up everything in just a few clicks. Sometimes with any software update things do go wrong so it is better to have that backup in place.

February 28, 2012 at 2:09 pm #440613There are plenty of guides around but it is a lot of work. Problem is there are many different methods and various migration tools. Even when you do get migrated there is always a lot of little bits of work to do to get things right.
Here is one such tutorial but many more can be found with Google – http://www.jomsocial.com/blog/migrating-joomla-15-to-joomla-25-a-guided-tutorial.html
I’ve migrated a few sites now and it has taken a few hours for each one. I always work on localhost using WAMP then use Akeeba to restore my site to my hosting when complete.
Before you start though please make sure that all the extensions you are using are available or have suitable replacements. There is nothing worse than going through hours of work only to find yourself stumped because of an extension not being J2.5 ready. I did just that last week…

Let me ask you – what is the advantages of Joomla 2.5 over 1.5 in addition to the security issues??

February 28, 2012 at 4:19 pm #440640There rally are a lot of things. First we have the ACL allowing lots of control over and module, article or anything else on the site. There is a noticable speed boost too. There is a new search engine and tons of other new bits all detailed on numerous websites. You also have a one click updater so each time a new version of Joomla is released you just press a button in the back end to update.
Having said that there will be a lot of sites sticking with J1.5 for a long time to come.
