Hi,

I am trying to install the template at the following address http://www.joomlart.com/joomla/templates/ja-methys .
I keep on finding the error I have printed in the title of this post. JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file Path does not have a valid package.

First attempt,
I tried to install it first directly from the zipped file I downloaded using upload package and install in Extension manager: Install, and was not successful. An error was generated: error:JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file.
After the installation failed I deleted all the files that were uploaded to my folder C:xampphtdocs10ktmp except for index.html file.

Second attempt,
I unzipped the file I downloaded and placed the contents into a folder called j4 and placed the folder into C:xampphtdocs10ktmp.
I chose to install from directory with the file path C:xampphtdocs10ktmp specified.
The install completed again but gave me an error JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file Path does not have a valid package.

On both attempts the template did not show in template manager indicating to me that it did not install the package.

My setup is Windows XP, Xampp for Windows(has Apache Mysql), Joomla 2.5.4.

Can you please help me to resolve this issue?

Hi Robert,

That error message indicates that you have installed a incorrect package, Can you let me know the exact link from where you downloaded the package ?

I guess the package you tried to install is a quickstart package and not template package, Try to download and then install the template installation package here and let me know if the problem still occurs.

Hi Sherlock,

Thank you for getting back to me.
I downloaded the template from the following address http://www.joomlart.com/joomla/templates/ja-methys , I downloaded the version for joomla 2.5.
I think I got it working,
I unzipped the original file I downloaded from the above address and installed each of the components from the folders individually.
Here is an image showing each of the folders that were extracted from the original zip file:

I started with the template folder and extracted the contents of the zip file in that folder.
I then went to extension manager and used install from directory to install my extracted template.
I repeated the steps for for all the files in the component, module and plugin folders.
When I tried to install the source folder the following error message was generated:
JInstaller: :Install: Cannot find XML setup file
Path does not have a valid package.

Do I need the files from the source folder to be installed?
What are they for?

I did not install the quickstart package.

Hi Robert,

You don’t need to install the source folder as it is not a joomla extension so could not be installed into a joomla site, it’s a design package that contains psds (photoshop) source files that would help in case you are a designer and want to modify into the original design of the template, otherwise you don’t need to care about it 🙂
