April 28, 2011 at 2:03 am #388660Wow …. I’m seeing a whole lot of impatience here – considering that JA delivers to you an UNBELIEVABLY dynamic and robust template that, likely, NONE of you would ever be able to create on your own.
I just actually decided I wanted to use this template – and I am more than willing to wait for the appropriate upgrade enhancements so as to be able to take advantage of JomSocial 2.2.
For those of you running a website with the previous JomSocial version – is your website now broken and/or non-functional or something? If not, quit complaining … the JA Team will release the updated JA Social template when they are satisfied that it is as stable and bug free as possible.

April 28, 2011 at 8:11 am #388753I second this!
I’ve been familiar with Joomlart’s templates for some years now, and only recently I became a developers member. I think Joomlart’s templates are some of the very best on the market (if not THE best) – and thus worth waiting for. Furthermore – Joomlart actually tries to be forward-compatible – by upgrading “old” templates to match present technologies. Not many template devs. bother to do this.
Basically, I’m also the impatient type – and I’d prefer it (read:everything) to be done yesterday.. – but some things in life are worth waiting for. Such as true love and/or a great Joomla template  – (since I’m happily married I’m only waiting for the template :D).
If you are impatient, like me – remember the Japanese saying:

April 28, 2011 at 9:11 am #388779Hi housefly and tcraw1010,
to be honest but these are not the points. One of the most important thing in a customer relationsship is communication ! The customers of joomlart want only to know the release day and witch enhancements the updated template will have. That’s all ! 😀
Thank you

April 28, 2011 at 9:18 am #388781I agree with Gummel. We cannot know whats happening at the background and would like to see news about whats going on, thats all. We are not becoming memebr here for fun or look at the templates. We also need to make plans and give apprx deployment date to our supervisors 🙂

April 28, 2011 at 9:18 am #388782The problem is gummel that it is very hard to say that. It is impossible to give an exact release day as when developing software there are always new hurdles to overcome. This is especially true when a template such as this relies on so many third party components who are also in the same boat and cannot give release dates. You only have to look at Microsoft as a prime example. A company with massive resources who rarely release a new OS on time let alone give firm release dates for their browsers.

April 28, 2011 at 9:34 am #388787Try asking Microsoft when their next OS will release
You have bought these templates ‘as is’ not ‘as I would like them to be’ – so when you chose to use a template which is nearly a year old – you expected it to be a forward compatible ‘look into the future’-template. When you find out it is not – you expect it to be done yesterday..
My point is : If Joomlart says it will be ready ASAP – then you have their best time estimate. As with any other developement – they need to thoroughly test the new enhancements before making any false promises of new features. These things take time. I read somewhere in this forum – that it is expected before May.. which is closing in.. So I would expect an announcement sometime soon.I agree that information is king – but in this case patience would be the ace. I also have clients waiting for me to implement this – but they understand the benefits of using Jomsocial 2.2 – instead of 2.0..
My optimistic view on this is – if the Joomlart crew is not spending too much time giving useless updates in the fora – they are probably working on getting these updates ready instead
EDIT: LOL luckhurst – you beat me to it.. (using the MS example..)

April 28, 2011 at 9:43 am #388790Hi phill,
but there are also professional management method/best practices (kanban, ITIL, etc) to avoid this. If you provide template based on third party components than you have to consider this in your release plans. Also microsoft is a not fitting example because the customer buy after the release of an OS. There are a lot of software companies which have mandatory release plans.
And my opion is to measure me up from the best practices and not from the worst !
Regards
Grummel(P.S.:Joomlart’s templates are some of the very best on the market (if not THE best) )

April 28, 2011 at 9:54 am #388793Would you have preferred JA Social to have never been released in the first place? Nobody outside the Agora team could have predicted at the time that it would go from a free open source component to a subscrition only one and nobody could have predicted the speed at which Jomsocial has developed. JA Social is a great template but there will come a time when JA have to stop putting it high on the priority list and keeping all the third party components updated. Every template should have its life span and I think JA are doing a great job of extending that as far as possible. Personally I would love to see a JA Social 2 with lots of new features rather than see so much work going into the original version.

Let’s have a time frame for JA social II  – are we there yet? When is it ready? – tomorrow? yesterday?
Just kidding;)For now I would settle with the update – but a fully compatible version 2 for the Joomla 1.8 platform would be nice, when the time comes for the next big migration 😎

April 28, 2011 at 3:25 pm #388845Well said, Phil !!
I mean hey, look how I feel . . . I JUST YESTERDAY decided that I can use this template and JomSocial – and I would like to be able to take advantage of the enhancements within JS2.2. But, alas, the upgrade of JA Social is not yet ready … so I have to either utilize it with the previous version of JomSocial or wait a bit for the JA Team to complete their upgrade of JA Social for JS2.2.
IDEALLY, I would love for there to be a simple UPGRADE procedure so I can begin styling JA Social to my needs, and then just be able to upgrade whichever files/code needed for compliance with JomSocial 2.2. I’d like to think I can still get started with the styling part with the template sans installing the JomSocial script, but I’m not certain about whether or not I would have to start all over again when the JA Social upgrade is finally released. (Anybody have any thoughts or assurances as to this?)

April 29, 2011 at 10:07 pm #389090I would be very happy with a JA Social 2 template. Just let us know when it will be released!

May 1, 2011 at 10:18 am #389259There are two thnigs JA developers should know,
1.Communication
2.NeedIf you read comments, all peoples just want Jomsocial 2.2 compatibility(STOP). other issues e.g joomla 1.6 and others will follow. So if i were you,i’d first fixed Jomsocial Compatibility as a patch then continues with Joomla 1.6 features.
