    Indeed, it is up to the designer. But when it comes to open source software – sometimes you need to ‘go with the flow’. Meaning that the most popular extensions will be the ones which are most thoroughly tested – and providing the availability of add-ons, language packs and compatibility. That being said – of course there are exceptions from this – and if everybody just use the same popular extensions – the variety and diversity of extensions would be minimal.

    So, in regards to Kunena, we have a popular extension with a large community – thus lots of knowhow on how to tweak it for your needs. IMO all BBs do pretty much the same – it’s how they do it that makes the difference.

    The most popular extensions are often popular due to a common denominator factor (be it availability, usability, versatility, compatibility, affordability etc.. ).

    In my experience, I often try many different extensions for the same job – before deciding which to choose – and will usually end up choosing a popular one (open source OR commercial) – due to some of the reasons mentioned above.

    So unless you are a skilled tweaker/coder – I would just go with the flow!

    BTW : Talking of Kunena – http://www.templatekunena.com spice up the templates a bit – I know it’s commercial, but maybe it’s worth it if css is not one of your strengths.

    Just another line of random thoughts from me :laugh:

    It seems we have some more waiting to do..

    If you check out the progress (go to top menu “Updates” – > “Joomla Templates” and find the JATC Social) – there are 26 bugs reported and only 5 resolved so far for the JA Social 1.2.2 update..

    So I’m guessing the developer(s) is/are busy..

    too much of time gone waiting for this.. why bothering creating new templates for each month? when the existing is not done according to the time.. ppl been waiting for this template for a long time and now joomla itself is going to enter another new phase version 1.7, yet we still dont have it ready for 1.6..

    I think Joomlart need a better planning. Since all templates not compatible with today’s version of Joomla, no logical reason to advertise +100 templates!! How many templates out of +100 can be used today? Instead of creating new (similar, without a new idea) templates waste of time. Joomlart can utilize this energy on updating existing templates. This will show everyone that Joomlart staying behind of their templates!
    Extensions are other important issue as Joomlart relying on other companies mercy. At least Joomlart might have a B Plan in case an extension is not updated so they can swicth the alternative extension easyly. If necessary Joomlart should be willing to pay a couple of hundreds dollars for alternative extension’s distribution as they have thousands licensed members! Now Joomla 1.7 on the way and obviously Joomlart need to make decision and let us know so we can also see our path aswell.

    Currently all 100+ templates are usable today. Joomla 1.5 is still a current and actively updated release from Joomla.org and until it stops being so there is nothing wrong with advertising 100+ templates. It is up to custome choice to decide which version of Joomla they use and along with template availability, extension availability is also if not higher on the list. I for one cannot even consider moving to J1.6 until some important extensions are available on the JED.

    As for J1.6 Extensions JA have a very good selection of templates available, more than many of the template clubs out there.

    JA SOCIAL is one of the most important and famous template in JA.. but why instead of focusing to improve JA SOCIAL, the developers are busy doing other new & old templates? why wasting time so much to make this compatible for J1.6? too many months have gone waiting for this and it is a serious issue because lots of users, their membership is going to expire sooner or later but many months gone just like that without any improvement to the template.. for the developers, its nice to make money by taking customers money immediately upon subscription but at least, give what the customers really needed.. too many months just for the sake of making the template J1.6 ready is a lame excuse!!

    subscribe here only because of JA social,and being one of the mostly used template from Joomlart,i know what you guys TRICKING,since you know if alot of us are here only because of JA Social so what you are doing now is waiting for our account to expire then release it so we will upgrade.i swear to my PC,if this happen I will makesure we all loose.

    For now,just fix the CSS menu so that we can enjoy the beauty of Jomsocial 2.2 while waiting for that Joomla 1.6,its nonsense for famous template like JA Social to use months waiting for menu fix,lol
