    Hi everyone,
I have checked with Arvind and our development team today however we were not able to give you a good news on this.

There are a few things I would like to share about the development of this product, as well as what we have been up to with product update & maintenance

    1. JA Social is a template for social website using Joomla, as from our demo we do support all joomla standard pages and a few components including K2 (from 1.5), JomSocial, Kurena

Let’s make it clear: JA Social is not a JomSocial template, but yes it does support JomSocial

    2. About the upgrade process at JoomlArt, we have been always the pioneer in since Joomla 1.6 (I remembered we delivered the first round within the same week of Joomla 1.6 stable release) and 3 rounds delivered every week later. We have been almost with the same space with 1.7 and 2.5

JA Social have always been in our update priority to be able to compatible with the latest Joomla core versions. It’s our ultimate commitment, and we are serious about it. We even rolled out 24 templates even before K2 had their beta version for 2.5

    3. JomSocial & JA Social template

It’s been not a very good experience for us with this component, every time they release new version for JomSocial, it breaks our template and we have to run behind updating our templates to fix the broken parts. Honestly, we don’t commit that our template will be compatible with latest 3rd extensions, including Jomsocial.

I personally had a talk with Jomsocial team about their 2.6 release. And I made myself clearly that if jomsocial were going to to change your HTML markup all again, we would not be able to surfer the pain anymore. “It’s now time you have to make your extension work with our template” so that you can really know the importance of being consistence in html/css markup system. That’s why we had a copy of JA social compatible patch from JomSocial Team

However, upon receipt the copy, we decided not to put them in our distribution. I would not like to comment about the reason here. If we decided to release the copy into our official upgrade package, you properly don’t want to use JA Social anymore
Nevertheless, Jomsocial developers develop great extension, so they won’t have to be template geeks 😀

We do listen and we know that there are a few of you who are expecting a template update for Jomsocial 2.6, we decided to go over the limit (again) to work on the fixing “broken part”, lengthening office hours till 20h and over the weekend trying to deliver a real, working solution for you, our customers. You are paid to be served, and you have your rights to be very happy. I am typing this reply at 2:45AM on a nice Sunday night is also a part of that shared goal at JA. Arvind had been working very hard but we really run out resource for the moment.

Having decided to be kiss-ass this time with JA Wall and series of the best responsive templates including JA Puresite & coming JA Lens, hopefully, can be a good excuse.

The other good reason is that we don’t deliver a half-done release, we have a strict QA process at JoomlArt and we don’t want our product are released out there full of bugs. They will go out there troubling you and then come back destroying our business.

    @hobbykwekers, latino07, frold, kyovev, gummel

I have shared my sincere thoughts and part of how our devops team is working to deliver the fastest maintenance update & release to our users. I look forward to your patience and support.

    A few questions?

Jomsocial 2.6 is still in RC phase, and it means there are still many bugs and the HTML/CSS markup may change again. Is it a good idea to have a working JA Social template works with Jomsocial 2.6 RC for now and the template may “break” again in the stable version?

Do you want me to give you an promise on the date next week, our you will want me to work with the team early on Monday to pull the resource and get this done. Properly you want the 2nd option because it works faster and it will be released when it is ready (next week 😀 right?)

PS1: @latino07 never update any site without a backup.
PS2: I would recommend to upgrade any big extension or scripts only after at least 3/6 months since the first stable release.

My personal opinion on this (not JA’s I might add) is that JA should not be pushing so hard on the jomsocial element. While I understand it is a big extension I honestly feel the jomsocial team should put more thought and effort into their releases. Every time a new release comes out something breaks. It is rarely just one item too, it is always something major or complex. All the template clubs end up struggling to work around these problems. All of their customers are ultimately left dissapointed.

From the point of view of many jomsocial customers I hear people getting frustrated by the excessive number of updates. It s hard enough keeping up with Joomla let alone with the JS updates and then having to update the templates to work with JS. It is too much of a struggle.

Here is what I would like to see the JS team do

    1) Release stable releases to the same schedule as Joomla itself, so that is only every 6 months for a new version. Security updates notwithstanding obviously.

    2) Build a fixed template engine much in the way Joomla do or other third party component builders such as Kunena do. This means a lot of work from the JS team admittedly. The need to set standards that would not change at least between the major joomla versions. If they do need to make changes then they should fit around the laid down standards as not to effect third party template clubs.

So why should JS go to all this effort? Surely it is up to the template clubs to fit around them? Partly, but if JS can assure the template clubs that they can and will do this then I am sure the clubs will be more willing to build JS styling into their products which can only be a good thing for not only the JS project by increasing their user base and visibility but would ultimately lead to a lot more happy customers.

Thank you for both the answers. I can fully understand the problems you get with JomSocial. The template problems are also something I have mentioned several times to JomSocial. We have written a very long letter to them containing requests not only about the templating system, which is very frustrating to all template builders and the main reason why there are just a few available templates, but also for other problems. I rather see them focus on stability, robust template system, speed than implementen one after the other feature without focus on important issues like before mentioned.

I will patiently wait untill you come up with a working solution.

Please let JomSocial know again that a more robust template system is needed. If not, they can expect that all template builders will focus on other components…..JomSocial is a great component but it lacks vision and common sense in some areas.

Hung, Phill i fully support you. I am frontend developer and i know what you mean. For example few months ago i built amazing Jomsocial template for a client. But after he updated his JS component the template was broken and this guy blamed me for this (can you beleave? hah ).

What i want to say is that it’s really hard every time to build new template and reschedule your work… They really should consider to build new engine, maybe something smart that won’t be needing every time to recode almost 80 % of the code or at least they should release version every 6 months. That way the template providers will be able to catch up.

I have only one last question. When you release the updated template will it fully support kunena and k2 ( i mean the stylings from the J1.5 demo) (btw the kunena developer announced that kunena 2.0 will be released in may).

    Regards, Kiril

P.S. Don’t rush, it, to push it… do what you scheduled and then release the new template (i hope that this will be done by 15-20 days. If not i can wait : ) )

    🙂

I think JomSocial has picked up our concerns about the templates…below the reaction of JomSocial to my post on their Q&A: http://www.jomsocial.com/answers.html?view=questions&task=show&questionid=1234

    “Muhammad Khairul JomSocial Staff

Hi JdL, thank you for the concern. We realize that our template system can be a pain to work with with all the changes over the releases. Good news is, for JomSocial 3 we are going to do one major revamp to the system, taking advantage of the release of Joomla 3 as well. Yes — yet another revamp again, but the only one that hopefully is going to last for a long time, and will make it easier for our template designers.

Our team has just started working on it since the release of JS 2.6, and we are really looking forward to see the final product.

Thank you again for your concern and good words, and for always been supporting JomSocial 🙂 ‘”

    Hi guys,

    Thanks for the update Arvind.

I’m trying to install the new theme by copying the files to the com_community/templates/ directory however when I select ja_social as default in the admin it is not displaying on the front-end when the user is logged in.

When I view the login page I can see Jomsocial has the ja_social styling however when I login the styling is gone. When I check the source it is looking up from the ‘default’ theme directory.

I’ve cleared my cache, changed browsers etc however I just can’t shake this issue. This is a fresh install of the jomsocial ja_social 2.5.2 template with jomsocial 2.6.1. I’m using joomla 2.5.4 and I had the ja_social Joomla 2.5.1 template installed before however I was waiting to install the jomsocial ja_social theme. Could this cause issues?

I’ve attached some screenshots to show you what I mean.

Please can someone suggest a way to resolve this issue?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks and regards.

    Hi Dat,

No I have installed the JA Social 2.5.1 Template into a fresh Joomla 2.5 installation a few weeks ago. Then today I updated the template to 2.5.2 and I’ve just manually copied the ja_social jomsocial theme into the com_community/templates/ directory.

I appreciate your offer to take a look at my files however I’d prefer to take advice on how to resolve this issue before I send login details.

Could you please suggest some things I could look at or I can pm you what ever information you need.

    Thanks and regards.

After some additional testing I have found that I cannot actually select any jomsocial template. Even blackout or bubble just revert back to the default template.

I can however see the Joomlart Joomla Template styling applied to specific aspects of the jomsocial component.

Hopefully someone can help with this.
