November 11, 2008 at 3:55 pm #278855I really wish they would put some better user group functions in that is really the only thing I cannot stand about joomla. I just got everything working with 1.57 I’m to scared to put 1.58 in and find virutemart, sef or some other compenent goes to hell when I’m really close to going public with my site lol.

Isn’t that the time you hop over to the Joomla dev forum and let them know your concerns? If (we) don’t tell them they don’t add it to the “to do” ? Mind you it may be more the component maker needs to keep pace with Joomla than Joomla bending backwards to accomodate all and every component 🙂

November 11, 2008 at 9:55 pm #278886I can not install the new version, somme errors happen in my Joomla portal 🙁 I’ll try again
November 14, 2008 at 12:51 am #279093I like the Joomla Magic Update extension. It does the update for you. The first time I tried to update to 1.5.8 myself, something went wrong and it messed my site up. Then, I tried to fix it and that made it worse! Thank goodness for backups! After I got the site restored, I installed the Magic Update thing and clicked the update button and it updated no problem!
November 19, 2008 at 7:02 pm #279681• When do you plan on updating your QuickStart packages to J1.5.8?
• In what template order will you use, newest, most downloaded, member suggested…?
• How long do you estimate that it will take to get all of your QuickStart packages upgraded?
• Do you have an upgrading procedure posted somewhere on this site?
Thank you,

November 19, 2008 at 7:05 pm #279682as far as upgrading to 1.5.8, you can do it just like you would any other install of joomla, the updates are not related to the template but o joomla itself
I already updated mine, it just takes a few minutes

Mike K.Hi Mike,
You can easily do it yourself. For example you installed a Quickstart with Joomla 1.5.6 inside. You just have to download the right update-package from Joomla.org. The 1.5.6 to 1.5.8 update package. Unzip it and copy the files to the root of the website where you installed the Quickstart. And you are ready.
With kind regards,
Peter

Hello Nefar,
As far as I know is “User management” one of the biggest changes they will make in the Joomla 1.6.x release. For more details just check joomla.org. Here you can find a list with all the features they planned to implement in Joomla 1.6: http://forum.joomla.org/viewforum.php?f=502. But I think this will not be released within 6 months.
If you do not want to wait about that you can think about a commercial product, like JoomSuite User or something like that. Do a little research in the extensions section on Joomla.org.
With kind regards,
PeterDecember 2, 2008 at 10:06 am #280927 -
