June 12, 2011 at 6:40 pm #165149There are others I could list, but these were really lovely themes for Joomla 1.5. If they were available for 1.6 I’d jump on them. Are there plans to port these to 1.6?
Or better rephrased, do you have a matrix of some of the older themes that you plan to port and when? Also, the new kid in town, JA Travel?

June 13, 2011 at 10:20 am #396076hi bobmeetin,
We would eventually be upgrading all the J 1.5 templates for J 1.6/ 1.7 / 1.8 . Its matter of time. Currently the rapidly changing J! status is not giving us much scope to take care of everything in one go.
July 10 Joomla! 1.7 will be out and Joomla 1.6 would be officially dead. and by the time we are done with Joomla 1.7 updates, Joomla 1.8, which thnakfully would be an LTS release like Joomla 1.5 would be out by Jan 2012.
As said, eventually all would be done, it will take time and can not commit the timeframe right away.
Regards
Arvind

June 13, 2011 at 12:54 pm #396099I guess I haven’t been paying attention. You said 1.7, 1.8, etc.
Here I am just now in the process of transitioning my personal business website to 1.6, struggling with finding new themes that suit me (ran with and love JA Trona for 1.5) and extensions to replace those not available yet for 1.6. I really thought I was behind the curve in waiting this long, but maybe the curve is a little jagged.
Regarding Joomlart transitioning themes, I’d imagine that this takes quite some man hours. Why don’t you do a survey or take a poll of themes live and such before undertaking the task? There are undoubtedly a few in the pack that it would not be worth the effort.
About 1.7 and 1.8 – are these going to be significant transitions that require more theme versions? I hope not as that would be a nightmare for both you and your customers. Along the same lines, what about extensions? Will extensions developed for 1.6 work for 1.7, 1.8, etc?
It takes time for you as the theme shop to sort this out, but it also takes time/effort for folks like me who do PHP/mySQL fine but are novice dabblers in Joomla development. If you can point to any threads that talk to my questions, please do.
As noted my j1.5 website is using JA Trona now and I love it. It would be my choice not to run with Trona for 1.6+ if it is made available reasonably soon.

June 14, 2011 at 7:00 am #396223J 1.5 will still be around till J 1.8 stabilizes, so i do not see any reason for you to panic and run for J 1.6 or j 1.7 upgrade. We spent months getting the J 1.6 templates and extensions upgrade and J 1.6.2 broke them all very badly, we now got that fixed (again took months) and J 1.7 alpha is released.
So its more of logistics issue. J 1.6 to J 1.7 would be easy (as said by joomla).
We are watching the J 1.7 closely and lets hope for easy transition.

June 14, 2011 at 1:55 pm #396312I, for I, very much appreciate the time and effort you put into this. I’m not here to panic (although I occasionally use panic as a username), but like all followers a roadmap makes a huge difference. I started to transition my personal website to force myself to gain some new experience with J1.6+. Even with my reasonably simple site I encountered a number of extensions that I would need to replace because they hadn’t been transitioned yet. I assume that there is some major reason why 1.7 is coming out so soon and subsequently 1.8.
Not to belabor a point, but do you have any timeline on when some of the older themes will be transitioned, even to 1.6? JA Trona for instance? If we’re only looking 2-3 months then I’d prefer to hang back rather than complete the upgrade and use an alternate template.
Still I think a survey of your users would be useful.

June 20, 2011 at 4:14 am #397277hey,
Joomla 1.6 will not be supported after august 10. So upgrading more templates for Joomla 1.6 right now would not make sense. Joomla 1.7 alpha is here and 1.7 stable in July 1-2nd week. >> http://www.joomla.org/announcements/release-news/5372-joomla-17-alpha-released.html
We already have a huge task to test, fix, upgrade all our Joomla 1.6 extensions (35+) and templates (24) before we take up new templates for conversion.
I very well understand your problem, however, i can not commit on a time frame. Many developers are facing the same issue of supporting so many versions of Joomla within a very short period of time.
We will not be supporting Joomla 1.6, when it is discontinued by joomla.org and by the time Joomla 1.7 settles down, Joomla 1.8 would be coming out, so the next 6 months are also full of up and downs for everyone.
I would suggest to hang in tight and migrate site to Joomla 1.8, which would be long term support release like Joomla 1.5 is.
Arvind

August 21, 2011 at 10:34 pm #407507Just to be sure, if I read this correctly, you are looking to Joomla 1.8 before making a commitment and upgrading some of the old themes like JA Trona and JA Labra. That sounds like 8-10 months forward from now.
Just curious, what was found to be so wrong in Joomla 1.6, then 1.7, to have them choose to go with 1.8 as a long-term target?

The primary reason being is that overall support for J1.6 has already expired, and the shelf-life of J1.7 is only slated for approximately 4-6 more months. The next LTS (long term support) release will be J2.5 (aka/formerly known as J1.8) – which, at last note, will be supported for at least 18 months (perhaps longer). MOST of the 3rd party extension developers are already looking toward/preparing for this next LTS for upgrading their relative products.

August 22, 2011 at 12:00 am #407515This is complicated for administrators and site owners, but an absolute mess for extension and theme developers. 18 months really isn’t even that much when it comes to how much work you folks have to put in to convert extensions and themes.

Agreed . . . However, these are the parameters within which we have to work – and we try to do so with the most sensible efficiency in mind. I believe the extension developers utilize the same reasoning in laying out their own roadmaps for updating/upgrading their products.Bob Meetin FriendBob Meetin

December 6, 2011 at 3:11 pm #428239Is there any update to the conversion to 1.8 (or is it 2.5) for some of the old templates like ja_trona? Sometime in February?

At this time, there is no definitive timeframe/schedule for when JA Trona (and/or others) will be updated for J2.5Please do keep an eye on our UPDATES[/url] section for upcoming announcements.

March 6, 2012 at 5:06 am #442120At long last Joomla 2.5 is out. That being said, with modest stability in the outlook, what is the transition plan for the older templates? Do you have a matrix that details which ones and when they will be converted?

At this time JA still does not know whether there will be a big push to go and re-visit older templates and add new features to them. JA still have a number of components to update and test and those are the priority at the moment. JA Voice, and JA Comment are 2 examples of big components that are actively being worked on.
However, it is my understanding that our JA Devs have given the “thumbs up” to agreeing to update a number of our older J1.5 Templates – though there is neither a list nor timeframe we can provide at this particular time as to when this will occur. In the meantime, there ARE methods to update the Joomla version manually – from J1.5 to J1.7/J2.5 – instructions for which are available within our Member Community Forum Sections.

March 6, 2012 at 4:24 pm #442233I understand it’s complicated, particularly if any of the themes are reliant on other programs like Virtuemart which seems to be now out there for 2.5. Many of my clients don’t need all the bells and whistles (and performance impact) of the more recent fully-loaded new themes. Many of the simpler yet older business themes are perfect. If you are taking votes here is my list:
JA Urani
JA Seleni
JA Kyanite
JA Halite
JA Quartz
JA Trona – my business theme, although I may swap it out if I ever get the time
JA Edenite
JA Drimia
JA Uvite
JA SulfurMany of the older themes, perhaps due to less social media, load much faster than contemporary ones. Clients see this too.
