I’ve just discovered a really strange problem with the Joomla banner component and Awstats.

Here’s how I discovered the problem…

Three days ago I included a ‘banner’ module advertisement on our site for a new client which I tested and was working fine.

This morning I checked the banner clicks in the backend of and it is showing as 50 clicks.

However, the client checked their stats using Awstats and the only click from questbg.com came via a link in an article, only 1 click through from my site, none of the banner clicks were registered in Awstats!

We also had a client just stop his advertising. His banner had been clicked over 1,000 times on my site during the last six months. However, he said that he’d checked his Awstats and showed no clicks from us so he has cancelled his banner advertising with us.

As another test, I created a new banner on a test site and pointed this at a spare domain I had kicking around. Over the last three days I’ve been clicking through from this banner to a temporary site on the spare domain. Showing this morning in Admin as 100 clicks on the banner. I checked the Awstats on the spare domain … zero clicks from my test site showing?

This could be a big problem for us and we could lose even more clients at this rate! Do any of you have any possible idea why the banner clicks are not registering in Awstats?
