November 9, 2011 at 1:05 am #170521I notice that K2 is installed in the DEMO version of the template. You can see it in the Explore menu: Explore > Extensions > K2 Component. But the component is not included as part of the Quickstart install :((. I decided to try installing K2 onto my test website to see if I could get it working, but now I have some major problems on my website:
- The Slideshow is no longer displaying on the home page
- The mega menu no longer works
- The C-Panel is no longer displayed
– All this and I have not even published any of the K2 modules. I have thought about de-installing K2, but I don’t know how!??
I am in big trouble now :((November 9, 2011 at 6:14 am #423768missyw – don’t know what version of Joomla you’re using, I’m trying to get this going on 1.7 – and while I’m getting a lot working, the K2 stuff is a real mystery (but it really shouldn’t be).
On my installation, I don’t have the K2 Component at all (I even installed K2 v2.5.1 myself). I know I’m missing something here, but I can’t seem to get my arms around it.
I wish that the quickstart included ALL the necessary components – including K2!
Since the demo is working, can someone please provide the missing link to get the K2 stuff integrated in with Joomla 1.7?
Thanks,
Jamiemissyw Friendmissyw

November 9, 2011 at 6:33 am #423770Jamie, thanks for adding your weight to this issue. It is all very confusing. I am also using Joomla 1.7 and have installed K2 v.2.5.1. But I can see K2 is there when I pull down the components list.
You said @jammastrj 281569 wrote:
… the K2 stuff is a real mystery (but it really shouldn’t be)….
– yes, I agree!

November 9, 2011 at 6:42 am #423771My site is now functional again.
One more clue in the mystery. I noticed when I was exploring the comK2 Information tab (Components>comK2>Information), that even though the modules were not published, the K2 Plugins (3 of them) were published. So I unpublished them, and at least now my website is functional again – the slideshow is displaying, the megamenu is working and the CPanel has re-appeared. What a relief!!!
Now, I just need to know how to get K2 functional and integrated with the template in J1.7.
But in your case, Jamie, you said you can’t even see K2 after installing it (even in the backend)? I think we need someone from Joomlart to solve that.
November 9, 2011 at 12:42 pm #423797missyw – I’ve been using Joomla! for quite some time now, although mostly 1.5.x… so I have a lot of in-depth knowledge and can debug, QA and problem solve most things related to Joomla… But K2, albeit a powerful add-on, the documentation, support and all things surrounding it leave much to be desired, IMO.
I’m wondering if the BLOG portion on the 1.7 version of this template is anything more than a cut/paste of the 1.5 blog (i.e. does 1.7 template actually have a working K2 component installed in it?) – I guess we’ll have to wait ’till the good folks at Joomlart weigh in, because we can’t get into the Admin on the demo templates (or can we?).
Glad you got your site functional again!

November 10, 2011 at 1:26 am #423914Jamie, thanks so much for your comments. I am gratified to hear your assessment of K2, coming from a Joomla expert. I have found it frustratingly complex to set up or customise. Nevertheless, I would like to have it installed, as I value the magazine style features (especially tags, author details and extra fields). And after all, this is a ‘community’ template.
I think someone from Joomlart should be able to give us support in this, as this template clearly was designed using K2. There are still remnants of it in the quickstart. You can see it if you look at the source content in module position user4. In fact, there is no way to get front-end editing of this first homepage article which is supposed to display the ‘Latest Blog’ without K2 – so the template must have been designed with K2 functioning. (And what are we supposed to do with the front page design if we don’t have K2?)

I tried asking for a template playground (with admin access) via the Demo Builder tab, but it has been several hours, and no email response from Joomlart yet. Now the online demo is broken, but hopefully that will come good soon … As you said, we must wait for the good folks at Joomlart to weigh in on this.
