It seems when subcategories are created that they are shown in the front end as just normal top level categories in the JA Jobs Counter module and not subcategories that are connected to parent categories.

For example, in the demo there is the following in the backend showing categories, subcategories, and sub-subcategories:

    Education
    — Training
    —- Teacher

But on the front end all three show up just like normal top level categories in JA Jobs Counter.

    Can this be configured differently?

    Dear sharpdome

JA Jobs Counter module currently doesn’t support show category in level.
We have created an issue to fix this problem: http://pm.joomlart.com/browse/JAJB-776
This issue will be fix and release with JA JobBoard 1.5.1.

Another small feature request… Could you include an option to hide empty catgories?

    Dear sharpdome

Thanks for your request, we have added the issue for release as feature in the coming versions.

    Hi,

just wanted to add a suggestion that maybe Categories and subcategories should be treated with respect of the actual content?

Example; A “Category” in this specific application actually contains the value of “An Area of Expertise” then a subcategory to that particular “Area of Expertise” is considered “Occupational Group” and thirdly; a subcategory under that particular “Occupational Group” is considered “Occupation” (or “Job”)

    Ex: “Data/IT” – “Technicians” – “Network Technician”
    “Construction” – “Civilingengineer” – “Civilengineer Road & Water” …and so forth…

Anyhow, this is the way the Swedish Government Employment Agency has organized the “category” labeling in order to coop with the plethora of every job-category available. (For a small agency you can of course stop at the first sub-category level (“Occupational Group”), thereby minimizing the number of available categories.

See Swedish Government Employment Agency (They also have a way of selecting Place/Job. Just try the different tabs.):

Thought it might be educational and a good alternative way of presenting categories.

Another alternative is to sort categories like:
    1. http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions
    2. http://www.yootheme.com/demo/themes/joomla/2010/expo/index.php?option=com_zoo&view=frontpage&Itemid=191
    3. http://www.mosets.com/tree/tour/ (Which is actually the same as #1 above 🙂

…but you probably know all this already

    Just some ideas…

    Regards
    Akerman

    These are great ideas!

The same formatting options would work nicely for showing the other two options of Job Types and Locations via the JA Jobs Counter module.

This would be especially helpful for locations, where it is useful to group jobs by country, then state/region/province, then city.

    hello,

In the meantime I think you can make a link from the url manually generated with the filter on a content page.

    Cordially

    Dear akerman

Thanks for your great ideas to improve JA Jobs Counter Module. We will consider and upgrade the way to show category/location level. But first, we will implement show multiple categories level in JaJobBoard 1.5.1.
