July 31, 2008 at 8:39 pm #131613First of all, I am well aware of forums.joomla.org, but honestly have had more luck here. So I will patiently be waiting…
I would like to create the type of landing page that includes obtaining info like name and email and recording into a db that I can use for newsletters, or general announcements. a lot like this page here http://www.bettertradesworkshops.com/default2.asp?ShowAll=T&source=1716&gclid= is this really just a standard joomla self registering process ?
i was thinking that a newsletter component would satisfy the part of that, but what about for those just signing up for general information where I want to be able to view names and emails of visitors? Not really sure how to do that unless it’s a self registering process and if so, will my site likely be hacked.
I also want people to register for a class and pay online for that class to hold their spot. any suggestions on that one?
well that was a lot of questions and probably stupid ones…but I would surely appreciate any input.
thanks

August 1, 2008 at 6:08 am #263354Hi Ellie
Some of what you would like to do, is what I am looking to do too! I need pay for access to certain sections, automatic payment and renewals of subscriptions and also newsletter features.
This product (recommended to me by ‘Menalto’, one of the Moderators here) seems about the best I’ve come across to handle all of that:
http://joomsuite.com/index.php?option=com_resource&view=article&article=17&Itemid=13As the ‘blurb’ says:
“JoomSuite User is the best component ever known for managing Joomla users. You get not only the most flexible tool to extend registration information, create user profiles, send newsletters, export, etc.. but also analyzing tool helping you create marketing strategy which is essential for everyone doing business and knowing that customers are the base of any business. So take maximum care of your users and get data diagrammed. One thing is to get user data and other to make it useful and profitable.”
It costs 59 euros, but I haven’t found anything else that comes close to offering these kind of features for handling registered users, so I will be investing!
Let me know if you decide to go with it … that way we can bounce questions off each other!!
Good luck

August 1, 2008 at 3:15 pm #263445First of all thank you for your response. I have noticed this product a while back, but it didn’t register now that it would be a solution for me, but I do believe that it certainly can be. I will be starting this project sometime between now and mid September and doing a bit of pre-planning. I don’t anticipate drawing a huge audience but wonder….do you used shared hosting ? Currently I have an account with dreamhost and hostgator..
Thank you for your input.

August 1, 2008 at 3:23 pm #263448Hi Ellie. Yes I am on shared hosting, but I have a fantastic hosting company with 24 hour support! They are happy to install latest Joomla for me, Joom!Fish, etc.
I intend to buy this extension and intall it in the next week or so, I’ll update this thread (or send you a PM) when I do so that you can take a look at the registration process on site (if you would like a ‘registered user’ password, just let me know and I’ll send one).
Hopefully this product could solve both our criteria?
Regards
