I have not figured out the real value of this if it only updates when an article is added. I guess its so people can see if any article was posted but for a social website, articles are few and far between. Its more about the action among the members. How can I remove this? Just something that will have no meaning to my subscribers whatsoever. I am sure a lot of other users would feel the same way.

You can change this::

#ja-topbar .ja-updatetime {template.css (line 434)
float: left;
padding: 0 10px;
}

to

#ja-topbar .ja-updatetime {template.css (line 434)
display: none;
float: left;
padding: 0 10px;
}
