I first installed the template in one folder, and then di the Quickstart in another folder.
How can I get this one…

…to have the skinny left column on the home page like this one:

But I want the words to wrap to the edge of the box like this:

Your first image is because you have something in user5 to change this unpublish anything in user5 or publsh at least 3 items in user5 and click show title

Your second image is because you only have modules showing in the left hand side position
