Hello, I have installed the JA Rutile template but can not find an option in “Main Menu” for changing the layout to “Content + Right Column” or “Content + Left Column.” I would like to have Content + Right column for the display of articles..Please help! Thanks

January 16, 2011 at 9:41 pm #372134There is no specific layuor for that. It is a simple feature of Joomla. In the module manager you can choose which modules are displayed where. Simply make sure the left modules are only displayed on the pages you any then to be on.
January 16, 2011 at 9:45 pm #372136Ok, but even if I de-select the modules from the left column, in this template the articles still only appear in the center column, which is small…and different from the demo which shows the text all the way to the left…

January 16, 2011 at 9:51 pm #372138Please post a link to the affected page.
January 16, 2011 at 9:56 pm #372139For example, see this article: http://www.patagonjournal.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1732%3Aa-slimy-invader-blooms-in-the-rivers-of-patagonia&catid=91%3Aoutdoors&Itemid=261&lang=en
The modules are actually de-selected from both the left and right column but the text of the article still appears only in the center of the page, while in the demo (see: http://www.joomlart.com/demo/#templates.joomlart.com/ja_rutile) you can have the text completely on the page (wrapper), or to the left or right of the module column instead of the standard three column format.

January 17, 2011 at 10:46 am #372229You can check this topic: http://www.joomlart.com/forums/topic/css-styling-logic-help/#post-364092
duchh has given three solutions for such issue.
January 17, 2011 at 12:12 pm #372235Thanks, though I am not sure you understand the issue. All I want is for the template to work the way it does in the demo. I uploaded a new version of the template, and it works, so it appears that my present template was modified in some way preventing that from happening. What I need to know is what do I need to restore to the template to allow me to have the layout settings “Content + Right Column” or “Content + Left Column.”
Also, I only want to use the Content + Right column for articles, not for the frontpage.

January 18, 2011 at 10:45 am #372425You can create new Layout from your template folder:
Then, edit this layout to show only content + Right column:
Create new profile
Add your menu item to use that profile:

January 19, 2011 at 6:54 am #372582please make sure you did not modify index.php in your template folder, cause with original file, the left and right columns should disappear if you disable them in module manager.
January 19, 2011 at 1:56 pm #372680Hello, I just tried replacing the index.php with one that has never been modified, and while the function regarding columns now works it messed up the entire rest of my website. The header was gone, several modules disappeared, things were in general disarray. So, I need another solution.
One of my former web designers made some changes to the template in parts, and likely deleted out or removed this option in the template somehow. I would like to restore this function, or at the least, find a workaround to get the articles on my website in a format of content + Right column.

January 19, 2011 at 6:52 pm #372713You will need to compare the two variations of your index.php file to work out what has been changed by your dev then work out how to keep the bits you want. Use a tool such as winmerge (http://winmerge.org/) to compare what has been changed by your dev then re-apply the changes to a good version on your live site. You should be able to discover what he has edited badly causing your problems.
