I’m having issues with the layout on my website.

I have it designed as 3 column on the homepage, and then only 2 columns everywhere else (the only way I could do it was to make 2 modules in the left column only appear on the HOME menu item). All of my articles, blogs, etc depend on it staying at 2 columns, or the content column gets all squished.

Well, for the most part, it seems to work, but then out of the blue, something arbitrarily decides to be 3 column again.

The latest culprit is EasyBlog. I have installed it, and created a test blog article. It works fine. When I open the blog article, the columns are still set to two, and I also see that the BLOG menu item in the main menu is highlighted. (see attached image).

But, if I try to create a new blog entry from the frontend, the page refreshes as 3 column. And, instead of the BLOG item being highlighted in the main menu, HOME is instead. (Why is that?)

    Thanks for your help.

    1. 2-column
    2. 3-column

I would suggest you to use different profiles for home page and all other pages. That way you can use different layouts for these profiles and there wont be any issue cause in inner pages layout you can remove the position in third column.

Regarding the easy blog, it seems to me that the Create Article option is not associated with any itemid, that is it doesnt have a menu item for it and hence it is taking default itemid, that is the itemid of home page and hence you see Home menu highlighted..

If you need further help with this, please provide your site url via PM.

That sounds like it would work. However, I’ve never attempted anything like that before. Can you clarify exactly what I’d need to do.

Again, sorry for being noobish about this, but I don’t really understand. It is due to the fact that I don’t have a menu link to that item?

I would really appreciate any help you can offer. I’ll PM you the site url.

    1. If you can provide access details, I can do the initial setup and then explain it to you, so that you can actually check what has been done without any confusion.

    2. Yes create a menu item for creating a blog and see if that solves the issue..

    Hi,

I have done the following and now whatever you publish in left position, even though you publish it on all pages, it will only be displayed on the home page. Right position is available on all site pages..

    1. Cloned Default Layout and named it Default-Home.
    2. Removed <block name=”inset2″>left</block> line from the default layout
    3. Created a new profile Home in JA Social > Profile Tab.
    4. Selected desktop layout as Default-Home for this Home profile
    5. In page assignments under pages selected home menu item and under profiles selected home profile and saved the template.

Thanks himanji! I’ll have a look around and see the differences. If I have any questions, I’ll ask.

…actually, one question. With those changes be erased with template update? Probably not, but I want to know in advance.

    Hi,

I think on template upgrade all original files will be upgraded so it will be better to take a backup before you upgrade.
