Is it possible to change the template to use the front page component and the categories menu?

In other words, I would like the top of my page to be 2-3 pages from the default Joomla home menu, then use the categories listing from JA-News, without the scrolling box of stories?

Layout would look like this:

STORY
STORY
STORY

Categories menu
