Hi,
I’m getting a strange layout of my site with the JA Teline II template and modules. I haven’t changed anything to the template and I’m using Joomla 1.5.2.
I have activated some modules in the ‘right’ position, but those aren’t displayed. And modules in the ‘left’ position are displayed at the bottem of the page.
This is my site:
Can anyone help me?

July 16, 2008 at 8:45 am #260105Hi kevinvandun
Wow, that’s weird!
I think best thing would be to ‘unpublish’ everything in ‘left’ and ‘right’ then republish them one at a time until you find out which one is causing the problem?
It sounds like it could be one of the modules published in ‘right’ which is causing this?
July 16, 2008 at 9:14 am #260112If I unpublish the JA_NewsFP and JA_News then the page is normal. So that are the modules causing the problems.

July 16, 2008 at 10:29 am #260136Hi kevinvandun,
What Chris (questbg) suggested is correct, many people reported this problem and I myself had similar problem. Unless, you did it systematically to know the origin of the problem and when it started, it is very diifficult to find the culprit.
I looked at your site, and it seems you just started. And the most critical is that you are still using Joomla 1.5.2.
Joomla has updated versions mainly for security reasons, although they use the release also to make improvements in the features based from feedback and ongoing work by the core team. The latest version now is Joomla 1.5.4. This version corrects some irritating flaws of the Joomla 1.5x — like the name of the site not showing — before Joomla 1..5.4. Not a complete fix but at least in the front page you now do not get that stupid:
Welcome to Frontpage or Home
With Joomla 1..5.4, if someone visits or bookmarks your URL, it will include the actual name of your site when the visitor enters through the Homepage.
It is a great security risk (especially if your website is very popular) not to upgrade — especially if the upgrade is meant to correct known security risks.
The other very important thing, the Joomla 1.5x-Teline II combo has many bugs. Hainn’s fix Teline II v1.4 has corrected many (not all) of these bugs.
I was hesitant to introduce the Hainn’s fix to my existing pages, so I decided to install the Joomla 1.5.3-JATeline II v1.4 QuickStart kit (not the whole thing you download), then I upgraded to Joomla 1.5.4.
Thus, in your situation — for the reasons indicated above — the suggestion of nguoiabcd is most prudent. When you are having problems, and you are just beginning, you must have a Sandbox — where you try anything new before you introduce it to your working website. Joomla recommends having a mirror site and is a prudent practice to have this Sandbox to try things.
If everything is setup, including the database, username and password, as well as the FTP username and password, plus the unpacked QuickStart kit uploaded, it takes me about 7-10 minutes to do the actual installation of Joomla 1.5x-Joomlart template QuickStart kit. If you do not commit the common errors of new users, the Joomla 1.5.3-JATeline II v1.4 QuickStart kit is much better than and corrects many bugs (not all) of the previous Joomla 1.5.3-Teline II v.1.3 (see note below).
As Ana stated, the QuickStart is not a magic bullet, but when things go wrong — it is good to stand back and ask: Can I get the Demo page, if I install the QuickStart kit? If you can, then the problem that you encountered is cause by something else. However, if you cannot get the Demo page, then you have to do more analysis, as to why you cannot — because the problem may be a result of your technique.
Just a thought.
Cornelio
On the Joomla 1.5.4-JA Teline II v1.4, For the most part, it worked. In retrospect, it would be better if Joomlart prepares a Joomla 1.5.4-JA Teline II
July 16, 2008 at 11:12 am #260154Oké, I’ve updated my site to Joomla 1.5.4 but I still have the problem. I have also installed JA Teline I and that template isn’t working as well. I get the same problems there. So I think that the QuickStart won’t help.

July 16, 2008 at 11:26 am #260160Can you give a screenshot of the setup of each module you use on the frontpage?

Did you actually perform the QuickStart for Joomla 1.5x-Teline II?
It never failed on me. And, I have installed quite a few of them already.
If you just uninstalled and installed the Teline II parts, and that is not easy, it is not the same as doing fresh install of the r Joomla 1.5x-Teline II.

Yeah, much better. How come all your text are bold?
Cornelio
July 17, 2008 at 6:42 am #260408My text is bold because the intro text of my news is bold. If you go to a newsitem you will see that.
July 17, 2008 at 6:49 am #260409Oké, now I’m lost. I haven’t changed anything to the layout ore the modules. But the layout of my page is gone again…..
I think I know the problem. If you submit an article at the front-end you will get that strange layout. (I can’t explain it good, because my english writing is not so good).
Now I have removed that article and then the layout is normal again!!

I did not explain myself very well.
Did you want them bold? It is not a good idea to have everything bold. Many would consider you to be “shouting” if you use bold and/or CAPITAL letters, all the time.
