January 26, 2008 at 1:09 am #125230What is the best resource, (website, book, etc.) to learn the details of how a Joomla site is structured layout-wise, explaining the index.php and css files?
I understand html, css, and am intermediate on php. I’m picking up bits and pieces from this forum, but it would be easier to have something that explained the whole approach so I understood the whole thing rather than trying to piece things together here and there.
Thanks for any advice.

On tuesday 1/22/08 a major update to Joomla was released. The version on info you will find out on the web right now will most likely be referring to 1.0.x and the new version is 1.5. There are some major differences that really don’t allow an easy upgrade path. If you are just getting started with Joomla you will propably want to focus on the 1.5 version. Almost everything will now be built for the 1.5 version as far as components, extensions and mambots. I would go to http://www.joomla.org and start reading about the areas that you are concerned about and join their forum to read about what other users have to say. You will find links there to help you learn more. There is also a book available that you can find here http://www.joomlabook.com. This site also has a forum and more to use after getting the book. The release was just a couple of days ago so the list of places that will provide tutorials, etc. will be growing every day.

January 28, 2008 at 3:17 pm #237444Phil – I really want to get started with J1.5 but I’m not really looking forward to upgrading or I guess really starting over with my current site and moving over all the content.
