Is there a way to make the left and right side of the template show in another colour than the rest of the body?

Please have a look at the attached picture. I have chosen a light green colour just to show you what I mean. Is it possible to make this happen in this template? I want the body with all the main information, text and everything to be white, and the sides in another colour.

Perhaps I´m asking for too much now, but I have to ask! 😀

Thanks, I´ve tried your solution but I guess I must be doing something wrong. Where exactly should I put the above code? In the template.css or the colour css?

Should I just change the values in template.css to the above mentioned ones? I tried that but it didn´t work. Sorry, I´m a bit lost at the moment. 😉

Unfortunately the site is not live yet, it must be finished off-line until launch. I am not totally unfamiliar with css, but I just can´t get this one to work. Thanks for your help so far, is there any way you can explain how and where to change this? I feel a bit slow to be honest 😀

Okay, I have changed my mind a bit. Perhaps you or someone else can show me how to do this. Have a look at the attached picture. I want a background image to be visible on the left side of the website only. It should only be repeated once, and it has to start by the left edge of the body, regardless of screen resolution or window size.

The image is marked as a green area on the picture. Anyone got a solution? 🙂
