For some reason the link in the slide news modules on my homepage. do not work. They are supposed to link to an article, however, I just get redirected to the homepage.

Hi
You need to create a menu > category blog > add the selected category that menu , so it will open on the menu (category blog). when the category or article does not associated to any menu it will open on default page .
