When I click on any of the side news articles … the URL changes but the page doesn’t it stays on the home page

Hi

Articles to be showed in the way you are asking need to belong to menu items,

If articles are not linked then they are showed in the way you see it now ( Home page )

This is Joomla core behaviour ( Content Management System )

You should link them to a menu item top or something else
