is there a possibility that I could refer to k2 categories in the side news module and not only to articles?

Hi

Unfortunately the K2 feature is not yet included in the module.

I like K2 in side news too. Is it possible to add K2 feature in update of side news and when?

Hi

I think that as was done for other modules the K2 feature can be added to the side news module too, but for now is not planned yet by joomlart developers
