I guess that you want the news display like this: http://noticias.adventistas.org/es/uch/ , right?

In the settings of home menu item, you need to set to display more articles in the main content block in homepage. Then add style for them to make it looks like above page. By default, the home menu item only shows one featured article.

Well, as I can see in above link, it uses Latest News Plus Date module – a 3rd party extension to display articles like that. It’s not just style the way Joomla or this template show article.
