First I was having trouble understanding why JA Social 1.7 had errors when installing (Back-end file errors). A JoomlArt tech then installed it and said it works fine now. When I went into the back-end, clicked JA Social as the default tempate and then clicked “View Site”, I received this message, “MISSING_JAT3_FRAMEWORK_PLUGIN.” It didn’t appear fixed to me at this point and I wasn’t exactly sure why I was not informed about this plugin to begin with to make it work. Then I went to look for the JAT3 Framework Plugin and did not find one for Joomla 1.7 (only 1.5/1.6). So, my newly purchased membership and download have not provided me with a very satisfactory experience thus far.

Now, looking in the forum I see loads of problems people are having with JA Social and JomSocial extension. JomSocial is the reason I purchased a membership to get the JA Social template. Now I am wondering if this is just the beginning of a negative experience or have I not given it enough time? My gut tells me I should cancel now before the 7 days go by and get a refund. Any thoughts or encouragement from forum-goers? When JomSocial upgrades it’s core I’m sure it will host a slew of additional problems for any template it resides in.

    Thanks!

    Hi Pascm,

Thank you very much for offering to help. I had a fresh install done with JA Social’s quickstart on my host server and appears better now.

I do need to know what menu type to add for getting JomSocial on the main menu bar so I can see how the JA Social template handles JomSocial and log in. If you would provide me with that information or direct me to a help page I would appreciate that.

Thanks again for answering my call for help!

    Same problem here.
    I agree Joomlad.

Cannot install jomsocial theme (“JA Jomsocial theme J17” file) in Joomla 1.7. Never could.
In fact, name file is “jomsocial_theme_social_j16.v1.2.0”, JOOMLA 1.6 and it doesn’t work with 1.7

    Solutions please.

It’s amazing how often utilizing the quickstart installation process can resolve many of these issues, isn’t it?

I can’t understand why more don’t take advantage of this.

Hi in order to be able to use the JA JomSocial theme on an existing site you must upload those files to /components/com_community/templates/

Please let me know if that solves this problem for you.

There is another factor that needs to be addressed here. When you load quickstart, T3 Framework and JomSocial you will NOT find JomSocial in the Main Menu afterwards when you view site. The Kunena Menu is there but the JomSocial Menu tab isn’t. When you add a new menu to the Main Menu there is no JomSocial “menu item type” to select. So, what do you use for the menu type to give life to JomSocial as it appears in the JA Social template example? That was the reason I loaded quickstart to begin with! I have an open ticket on this without a response to it in 24 hours. I believe I still have a few days before my trial period for backing out.

Manos, just got your post. I only perform the Extension Mngr install for JomSocial. Do I need to FTP the entire com_community pro of JS into the components folder of Joomla also? Then what do you do to make Joomla recognize it’s even there?

Hi Manos, I did before my post, but didn’t work. But I’ve tried again with a new download and now it’s ok!
    (new files in zip file?)

But, Jomsocial version is now 2.4 and template is not working fine.
This is an image with jomsocial 2.2:

and this one is with jomsocial 2.4:

Is it possible for you to update it or we’ll have to wait for a new version in the future?
    Thanks!
    Regards.

    Hi chowi,

Jomsocial was released officially today or the day before so yes probably our template needs to be updated for that version.

Yes, I just want to know if you’re going to update it or we must do it ourselves.
    Thanks.

I don’t have that info right now, i will have to make the same question to our devs (the answer is 99,9% yes but i can’t give you that answer unless i have that answer official from JA dev department).

So i am going to ask the dev’s and get back to you.

    Hi Joomlad,

I just installed JA Social on my localhost and after that i installed jomsocial component and everything works just fine.
Note: When you install jomsocial component there is no need to upload the ja social template for jomsocial you just have to select that as the default template within jomsocial settings, you only have to create the main menu for jomsocial.

Please tell me the exact steps you have done so far so i can guide you further!

    Regards

    Manos

Update: Please let me know the ticket number so i can take a closer look if you need me to do that.

    Hello Manos,

What menu item type do you use to build the JomSocial tab on the Main Menu? I took off JS 2.4 and loaded the old JS 2.2.4 version.

I just need to know what menu type to use so I can see JomSocial like your template example. And, yes, ja_social is the default under JomSocial settings.

Tom was given my credentials to look at my backend but he never got back with me after that…over 28 hrs ago.

    Thank you very much.

    Hi again,

You have to use the community menu.
    Here are the steps:

    • Go to Main Menu press -> New
    • On “Menu Item Type” select -> Community Home
    • enter the rest of the data needed like alias etc

    That’s all you are ready.
