December 10, 2012 at 7:44 pm #182994I can’t use this template unless I can find a way lock the modules into position. Right now they move to different areas of the page, depending on how much content is in the main area. So a short article ends up with modules underneath it, and longer article does not.
How can I make things stay where they need to be?

I found the problem on your site because JA Elastica Template only support block module but main content on your site load many items, see the screenshot
You can fix this error by this way:
http://bethisrael25.studybandit.com/
You need to separate item on main content
+ Create module appear with “Welcome to Beth Israel Center of Madison, WI”
+ Create module appear with “News” and “Upcoming Events“….

December 28, 2012 at 5:35 pm #477789This does not help. Even if I turn off all articles on home page, I still have the problem of wrapping modules underneath on other pages. Unless you’re saying that you can’t show actual articles on any page on a ja_elastica site.

December 29, 2012 at 3:14 am #477838You are mis-understanding about auto block (block module)loading on JA Elastica Template, see the screenshot and hope you understand more
If you want to use auto article block loading(article items) you can use JA Wall: http://www.joomlart.com/demo/#ja_wall
