Has this happened to anyone else? Hired JA to install the template and they did. I then spent the next 3 days learning Joomla (new to Joomla), understanding the template and then customizing the site. Then JA reinstalled the template, 3 days later (no request on my part to do so…maybe someone thought the job wasn’t done), and wiped out all the work!
30 hours down the tubes!
Ouch…sure wasn’t expecting that…

Hi clubred,
You should ask to be compensated. But, now that you know Joomla better, the installation process is the easiest part of creating the website — you should do it yourself. Just be sure to use the Quickstart Kit.

July 11, 2008 at 4:47 am #259143Ouch indeed! Does your service provider not back up every day? If so, ask them to go back to previous backup and restore your work.

July 11, 2008 at 5:44 am #259151also in the future – install something called joomlapack or lazybackup and set a schedule to backup your entire site.
this way you’ve always got backups!!

Have you tried Joomlapack anisjolly? It is one of the Admin extensions that I downloaded but never got a chance to try yet.
It looks like a good alternative not only to backup, but also to transfer contents to another joomla site.

July 11, 2008 at 7:18 am #259173I use joomlapack to backup my site on a daily basis and it backs up every little bit – inc the sql db.
What I’ve also done is setup a development version of my site which I do all the testing on with all of the components etc and then make those necessary changes on my live site (or if it’s just files i need to transfer – copy them across).
that way my live site never experiences any problems – and I’ve always got a copy running on either live or dev if i need to switch my live url over.
Re: Joomlapack – it’s a great product and would definitely recommend it!!!

July 18, 2008 at 7:52 pm #260769Yeah, it seems that it has been installed twice.
First at yourdomain/dravity on 8 and then later on on yourdomain/jainstall on 11.
I checked both sites and no specific modifications on the templates, all i saw was that it is added content on both of themJuly 19, 2008 at 12:50 am #260784Any reason not to delete the /jainstall version? been changing the content on the /dravity…
and when I want everything to go live on mydomain.com/ what’s the easiest way to port from mydomain.com/dravity to mydomain.com/? As I get some experience with Joomla I’m guessing there is more than one way…and so far I always seem to pick the tricky way instead of the simple way that I figure out later when I’m trying something new…
