I’m looking at Purity III for an overhaul of my site. Have installed it on a local copy of my site, and I’ve also installed the Purity III quickstart for comparison.

I would like to use the Magazine layout on my home page, and have it show Featured articles only. That is, I do not want to have to choose a category.

I have configured my ‘home’ menu item (the default menu item) to be type xLayout-Magazine.
This menu item is also associated with the Magazine layout in the template.

In the menu item configuration there’s a tab called “Magazine Home” and another similar one for “Magazine Category”.
“Magazine Home” sounds like what I want — it’s specific to the home page and to featured articles — but the “Details” tab forces me to choose on article category, which defeats the purpose.

How can I configure the magazine layout to just take Featured articles from all categories?
What is the difference between the “Magazine Home” and “Magazine Category” tabs?

    Thanks,
    Chris.

OK, so I figured out that “Magazine Home” is the initial layout for the page, and “Magazine Category” takes effect when you click on one of the category tags.

Still, is there any way to make this a true Featured article layout, not tied to one category?

    Hi @csolar,

How about make all categories is child of root category (or you can create a category and make all other categories become its child) then select to show articles from it instead ?

    Hi-

Yeah, I thought of that too, once I posted my question 🙂

Interestingly, this only works if I create *two* new root categories. If I just create one new top-level category with everything else inside it, it doesn’t work. The magazine layout seems to fail if a top-level category is chosen. To get around that I have to create a second layer in the category tree:

    root 1
    – root 2
    –(existing category)
    –(existing category)

…then I can select “root 2” for the magazine layout.

    Hi Chris,

If you navigate to back-end >>> Extension >>> Template Manager >>> choose the style assigned to Root 1, for example JA Teline V – Magazine >>> let assume that in tab Layout, you choose magazine-home, scroll down a little bit and in parameter Sub Layout, you choose magazine.

That means if you open Root 1, the layout magazine-home will be used and all sub-categories like Root 2 and its child will use layout magazine, so make sure to choose the right setting.
