    Wow..how sad !
I cant think of any compelling reason to use Joomla 1.0 x series anymore
I used to think Joomla 1.5 was unstable .Well not anymore with upgrades released almost every 5 weeks or so
Also all new extensions are now almost exclusively for J 1.5x !

We are updating all the download package to Joomla 1.5.7 as well as fixing any compatibility issues.
Early this week, the job has been started 1 day after the 1.5.7 is released. We hope to finish the upgrading work by the end of next week.

Personally I’ve just about had enough of 1.5x it’s an SEO nightmare as at present (using the joomla sef urls) every url changes with practically each upgrade making Joomla 1.5 completely unusable on a production site.

Not only is this totally confusing to visitors and administrators, it also causes serious problems with SEO especially with Google.

For example in 1.57 Blog section view the url to my article is now:
    section-name/118-category/546-article
    While in 1.56 it was:
    section-name/category/546-article

But just to add to the duplicate content the url to the same article under blog category view is as it was in 1.56:
    section-name/category/546-article

God only knows what it’ll be in 1.8.

    Hi

Does this problem occur even if you use a SEO component such as SH404SEF?
    How about this patch ?

Ah shit. Everything I’ve published since the upgarde is giving 404 errors!

Any quick workrounds … Patrick, checking the extension now. This is serious problem!

    Hi Chris

You mean that if you publish any new articles, the user gets a 404 ?

Dos it happen if you switch of SH404 ?
There is a post here.Maybe it can help ( ie some rewrite of .htaccess code )

    Hi Patrick

I’m not using SH404, just the Joomla “Search Engine Friendly URL’s” function.

This was working fine before the upgrade. Since the upgrade to 1.5.7 all pages are giving 404 errors, unless I turn off the SEF URL’s.

Will try the htaccess code on my test site and let you know!

    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi Patrick

<em>@2Patrick 80347 wrote:</em><blockquote>There is a post here.Maybe it can help ( ie some rewrite of .htaccess code )</blockquote>

Update: I added the code suggested in that thread to my .htaccess file (mine was already running php5 with Rewrite Engine on), backed up the original and uploaded the new version.

Reloaded the site and got the following message:
“You have chosen to open http://www.mytestsite.com which is
    a: application/x-httpd-php
    from: http://mytestsite.com

What should Firefox do with this file?”

So I had to revert to previous version of the .htaccess files. Obviously, that code is not a fix!

Everything on my site was working fine until I upgraded to 1.5.7, now, if I activate “Search Engine Friendly URL’s” in global admin, I get 404 errors on most of the pages … not good from Joomla this one!

    Anybody any other ideas?

    Thanks
    Chris

    Try using SH404SEF

Its one of Joomla’s recommended extensions and it works just fine.

Best to do the modrewrite and rename htaccess.txt to .htacesss so the urls will appear more natural without index appearing after the domain name.

I followed your advice about patching J1.56 using the 1.5.7 patch. All works well too. No problems.

Will do, although from what I read on the Joomla forum, the same 404 errors were occurring with SH404SEF extension too!

    Will keep you informed!
