    Mega Menu

Love it, hate it, indifferent, impartial?

If you look through the forums of late (Rasite and others) you’ll notice a lot of issues with ‘Mega Menu’. Primarily these issues are when installing forum software, Jomsocial… the neat things like this.

The fault looks like it’s come down to a java script issue.
Support has not been forth coming (which is not unusual for Joomart) with the noticeable exception of Phill Luckhurst (http://www.joomlart.com/forums/showthread.php?p=163879#post163879) who has provided outstanding service and really should be thanked many more times than he has (remember it’s people like Phil that aid in building a community).

My question is this – What’s your thoughts?
Is it possible to create a Mega Menu fix for each template ad sticky this to the top of each forum template forum section?
    What do the developers say?

My desire is to have this worked out, once and for all.

My concern is if Joomart is going to roll with this Menu and it’s not going to work with forum software or Jomsocial – is it worth it?

Love to hear anyone’s thoughts on this – remember we are a ‘paid up’ member community, we are paying for this.

    Thoughts please…

PS: tried to add a poll to this topic – how the hell do you do that!?!

    Dear bryantwest,

I do understand that there had been issues with JomSocial and Kunena. However, as per my understanding most of the recent templates have been updated with the fixes.

If you have any particular template, which is still not supporting JomSocial or Kunena, i may please be notified and i shall forward the same to devs for fix.

I would check the SVN commits and confirm the fixes for the recent templates.

Yaa, Phil is a great guy 😀

Hi Dravindc – thanks for getting back to me.
Could you please check/confirm that Halite2 has been updated with Mega menu?
I realise it has it’s own Menu system but one of the devs advised that they where going to update this one as well with the Mega menu.

Also regarding other templates and Mega Menu, this mornign I recieved a PM requesting assistance with JA Purity II – the user uses forum software – and bingo – no sub menu’s.

    If these issues have been fixed have they;
    1. Been addded to the latest download?
    2. Been updated on the forum topic ‘sticky’s to advise that they have been updated and instructions on usage?

Again, thanks for getting back to me.

    Thanks for your kind words.

Yes, the fixes have been added to the latest download but is has not been well publicised. As templates become more feature packed there will be inevitable bugs that creep in. I am sure you appreciate that all software needs testing by a large group and it is only then that these bugs will be found. I know that the JA team appreciate all the feedback and support from the general community. JA need to make the users aware that bug fixes are being made and while those that have access to the SVN can see these the general community cannot. I will try and discuss this with and see if there is anything that can be done.

As for the conflict with the menu and other systems this is being looked into. I can see this becoming ever more a problem and is not restricted to JA or Joomla. As I am sure you are aware, there are many competing js libraries and they are not always compatible. It is a bit like the VHS/BETA or HD DVD/BluRay wars. In this case the use of multiple libraries did cause a conflict so some extra code was added as a workaround. As the mega-menu system develops it will become better and this code will feature in all future releases.

For Joomla 1.6 the Joomla devs have made the decision to include moo as the library of choice and are doing their best to direct all component devs this way. This has been done specifically in an attempt to avoid conflicts such as we are all now suffering. Hopefully this will do the trick but somehow I think the battle will not be won that easily.

    Dear bryantwest,

Here is the screenshot of updates in SVN of JA Halite.

Updating templates with fixes is an ongoing process. The changes are updated to download files, when approved by the Test Team.

Now the question of update intimation, this question will be put to rest with the New Versioning / Download system. Hope you have read the New JA Packaging and Versioning / Download Announcement.

    1. This system will tell you the date when the packages have been updated.
    2. This way a version announcement for small fixes would not be necessary.
    3. Interesting part is that, you can check the files which have changed between versions.
    4. You can even download just the changed package / extension, instead of downloading the whole huge zip file.

The new Download system is proposed to come live in the next 1-2 weeks. Its already under beta testing.

The best part is that JA Update Component, which will let you update your JA products right from the Joomla! backend is also reaching final stages of development, which comes with an backup and roll back feature. Let me know what you think about that?

As promised in the 2010 – Top 10 Things to Expect from JA . JA is hell bend on introducing improved workflow and to provide maximum satisfaction to its members.

Hope, you are satisfied with the reply and trust me, things at JA have improved a lot, are improving. Irrespective of what’s individual opinion is, JA support has improved over the year.

    Regards

    Arvind
