    Please see

That ticket contains a detailed description of the problem.

I have established that the automatic and incorrect adding of the letters “-de” to the name selected of the selected menu in Teline V’s template manager does NOT happen if I disable Joomla’s System – Language Filter and System – Language Code plugins.

However, even though the template manager is now set to the correct “topmenu-de” menu that menu is not displayed on pages using the “Home – German” and “Default – German” template layout.

    Hi @andrewwinkler,

Actually, it should be position mainmenu in all cases unless you modified the template. About the 504 Gateway Timeout error, A 504 error usually means that a server upstream from yours that is acting as a gateway to handle the HTTP request is either down or too slow to fulfill the request.

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to solve a 504 gateway timeout problem. It has to be dealt with by the techies at the ISP that hosts the errant web server.

Changing the module position for ‘topmenu-de’ to ‘mainmenu’, the menu still wasn’t displayed. I actually was under the impression that it makes no difference in what position the menu module was held because it is in the navigation tab of the template manager where the main menu is defined.

However, after changing the module position of ‘topmenu-de’ to ‘mainmenu’ as you suggested, I was able to select it against in the navigation tab and the megamenu manager of the template manager and save the settings. After repeating the exercise for both the ‘Home – German’ and ‘Default – German’ layout, the menu name had been changed to ‘topmenu-de-de-de-de-de’ (!) for both layouts. All I still had to do is change the menu name from ‘topmenu-de’ to ‘topmenu-de-de-de-de-de’ and ta-ta-ta-ta the German menu gets displayed. (I just hope I’ll never have to go back in there.:D )

The problem of disappearing main menu has come back.

When switching to the default language English to second langauge German, the top menu disappears.

There are two menus define (top-menu-en and top-menu-de) but only the English menu is displayed.

    Hi @andrewwinkler,

I checked your site and see the problem as below :

    1. In German, the Top menu is visible but not the Main Menu

    2. In English, the Main Menu is visible but not the Top Menu

So please focus on your default language, setup to make both Main Menu and Top Menu work first, then let me know so I will check the problem in other language for you.

The only reason why I’ve set the top-menu-de to topbar-l position is because it is not being displayed otherwise. The top-menu is being displayed on the English side no matter what position I’ve chosen for it.

Here’s an 8:50min demonstration of the problem.

Update: I got the flags on both sides to show, by going into the database, doing a search for “topmenu-de-de-de” and replacing them with “topmenu-de”.

However, what’s weird is that – on the German side only – in full article view the mega menu disappears.

You can go to http://therebel.is/de/news and open any of the German articles there. They all open without the mega menu being displayed.

As a work around, I’ve duplicated the mega menu in the ‘topbar-l’ position, so it’s disappearance is not catastrophic, but it is less than perfect that the same menu is there twice and the mega sometimes shows and sometimes it doesn’t.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the way the template manager internally adds ‘-de-de’ to the menu name and I need to go back into the database to look for those random additions and remove them.
