March 29, 2011 at 6:51 pm #383870Arvind,
We are talking about the jpa archive that akeeba produces here, not a normal zip file. Kickstart.php is all that is needed for that.

March 30, 2011 at 7:06 am #383954If you want hosting in the UK I use http://www.bytemark.co.uk . You get a vm so you have full control over every setting. There is no control panle but everything is so simple there really in no need for one. Their support is top notch too.

March 30, 2011 at 8:58 am #383989All depends on the server load. I run about 8 small sites of their 1000MiB virtual machine and it runs very smoothly. If you are just running the one site and it is not hugely busy then the cheapest package should work. If you find it crashes due to lack of memory all it takes is a quick phone call or email and they will upgrade it in just a couple of minutes so it is quite easy to get the balance right.

March 30, 2011 at 9:13 am #383998Sure, try http://www.windwise.net/ or http://www.nationalwindsurfingweek.org or we also have http://coppermine-gallery.net/index.php which is a large opensource photo gallery that bytemark kindly host for free.

March 30, 2011 at 4:57 pm #384112The package makes little difference to speed. It is the available memory that is required. If your site streams lots of video then you would use up lots of memory. If you have loads of visitors at the same time again you would use up a lot of memory. However, 500 should be more than enough for quite a few visitors to your site at a time. I often get in excess of 2000 visitors at a time on the coppermine site and have never reached the 1000mb limit on there so for your site I am sure it will be more than enough. I run 8 small sites and 1 larger one off the 1000mb package with no problems at all.
For me there are a few key points that make them so good for my needs. Their support is superb, you have full root access, you have your own remote backup space plus the site automatically backs up everything daily locally. The system sends you a text on the rare occasions it fails (once in the last 14 months) and you can re-boot it etc from the master logon. It does take a little bit of learning when setting up for the first time but it really is simple once you know how.
