From the attached image, if I click on ‘Legionella’, it must do nothing. I get a 404

Because you made it as menu item alias of itself – and this is wrong

If I select menu item type as External URL, and add a # in the Link Field, when I click it is goes black, should be blue

I created a new file named custom.css and added to it :

.navbar-default .navbar-nav > li > a:hover, .navbar-default .navbar-nav > li > a:focus {
  background-color:#1b5280!important;
}

Now it is blue and not black
