I’m having trouble with adding menu items to the Top menu on my site. I’ve got 4 items separated by a | but adding another item anywhere in the menu just includes the | and not the menu item. The menu items only link to articles and I’ve tried to make sure the article settings are the same for each menu item but it’s not working.
Has anyone else come across this?

December 2, 2011 at 4:57 pm #427595Greetings:
To be honest, it is somewhat difficult to visualize what the issue might be with out looking around within your Menu Manager (within your site administration). However, in lieu of this – as a first investigative step – is utilize our “Demo Builder” feature to set up a temporary demo/clone of our JA Community Plus demo site (which is stored on our servers for a limited period of time – and includes a site administration access) and then look around within the demo site administration and compare the settings/configurations with your own.
The Demo Builder link/tab can be found on the JA Community demo page – on the left.
Give that a shot and see if your settings are the same as the demo –> as this may, perhaps, provide insight into whether or not you have things configured correctly within your own Menu Manager.

I’ve managed to create a test using the demo builder and it seems easy enough to add items to the top menu. Not sure if there’s something wrong with my installation, but I’ve just noticed that, on my control panel, the button links to Add new article, Article manager etc don’t work any more. Probably unrelated.
Anyway, I’ve been working on this site for about 9 months now and am worried I might have to start again. All I am getting when I add a menu item is the separator before and after the item, but without the item itself.
I am happy to provide you with any login details to the site if you think you might be able to help.

Sure … If you want to send me a PM with the info, I can take a look and see if there is anything I see that I can recommend.
If not, I will also run this issue by other of my Support Team colleagues and roundtable the issue.December 7, 2011 at 11:29 am #428399Tom
I am a bit concerned now as after I PM’d you the login details, all my css files were changed resulting in a completely messed up frontpage. I managed to fix it by uploading my local css files, but I see now that none of my javascript works and results in errors on IE. Can you let me know what you changed (I hadn’t realised you were going to change any files – I thought you were just going to recommend some changes….) so that I can rectify it. I’ve changed the admin password now as I’m worried someone may be able to get into the site.
Look forward to hearing from you.

I actually had not yet had a chance to look into your site administration, so I didn’t touch or change a thing.
Not sure what might have caused your issue … though IE is a “usual suspect” when it comes to various web design/development errors.
