I found the solution after looking at how demo menu’s were constructed. Here are the basic steps:
1. Create a menu item of section/blog. Important: in Parameters (JA Extended) include how many columns you want, default is 1.)
2. Create a menu item of section/blog and attach it to the first section you just created. Important: in Parameters (JA Extended) select “Yes” for Group.
3. Then create menu items of category/blog and make the parent the section/blog you created in step 2.
This will give you a menu item and the categories. To expand the menu to include other panes, use the “Separator” menu type. To create a “Headlines” pane, make a separator, choose group, and then at the bottom of Parameters (JA Extended), in the “Submenu content” area, select “Modules.” This will give you a list of your modules to display the latest posts in certain categories, such as “Sport news.”
