    Hi:

I am helping a group with their Joomla site; a developer was a using some type of custom-made template.

I installed JA University and the plg_system_jat3.v2.6.9 plugin to rework the site

    I’m facing these issues:

    1. Positions like slideshow and content-mass-top do not appear; I have tried to manually enter them but they don’t seem to be working.

    2. On the menus, some which are text seperators and pages under them do not work properly; the menus don’t drop down.

Can you help me explain why these is happening?

    Thanks

Did you install the template via the quickstart + sample data installation process?

No, I did not. The site was already up and running so this is NOT a new site; I just uploaded ja_university.v1.0.6.zip

Can I uploaded the quickstart? I thought that installed Joomla as a new install

    Thanks for the help

It is … though it’s okay if you’re doing so as a separate sub-domain site.

Sorry, Tom, I’m confused: should I upload Quickstart? Will it harm the website that is already there? I am not making a subdomain; I am using the existing stories and photos, just using a different template.

In that case, you won’t be able to use the quickstart + sample data . . . only the template files . . . since, as you identified, the quickstart is also a full core Joomla install.

Ok, thanks … but do you why I am having these problems:

    1. Positions like slideshow and content-mass-top do not appear; I have tried to manually enter them but they don’t seem to be working.

    2. On the menus, some which are text seperators and pages under them do not work properly; the menus don’t drop down.

I specifically want the “slideshow” to work; I set it on “slideshow” position but it does not work

    Thanks

Are you certain you’ve installed the slideshow extension – and properly?

    Tom:

I appreciate your help, but this is extremely frustrating.

I installed mod_jaslideshowlite.v1.2.1.zip per the instructions and it said it was installed fine.

I have tried several times to add the module, even a second module, nothing works.

I am not a complete rookie, but it appears uploading the JA University template (and not doing the quickstart) is useless because the positions don’t upload and its hard to mimic the template.

Is there any advice you can provide me? I granted admin access so if you wanted to take a look please do.

    Thanks again for the help

Here is a TUTORIAL you can read through for how to add a new module position.

My next guess would be to check your templatedetails.xml file to make sure the slideshow position is defined.

Nevertheless, perhaps the steps within the tutorial may help you to figure out why the position is not appearing.
