I think that JomSocial changed that 2 or 3 (minor) versions before i am not sure, did you try the default template ? Even though this is language driven and actually has almost nothing to do with the template.

Well, the text public etc apears when I switch to the defeult jomsocial template – when I use the ja_social template its not there.

It have nothing to do with my translation.

I use Joomla 2.5.3
I use JomSocial 2.4.3
I use JA Social 2.5.2
