When I click “follow me on Twitter” button, in mod_jatwitter, I get an error screen. (I’m using Google Chrome 15.0.874.106)

The error screen is from twitter, and it says : Something is technically wrong.

Thanks for noticing — we’re going to fix it up and have things back to normal soon.

The link is trying to send me to http://twitter.com/intent/follow?screen_name=LaughableNews

The same error occurs in the ja_social demo for 1.7

Now, if I try it in Safari, it seems to work. Any ideas?

Update: if I click the link above, from this forum, in Chrome, it works. wtf? Why would there be

    Hi earthson!
I only get a login screen when I go to the link provided.
i would set the cache to off, clear the site and browser cache and then see if error still shows.
If it is a twitter message there will be nothing JA can do.
    Thanks!

    Hello,

It is not a twitter error. It is just a weird glitch in Google Chrome. After a little more research, I see that when the button is clicked, the broswer address bar shows twitter.com/intent/follow?screen_name=LaughableNews, and I get the error message. But, if I add an http:// to it, it works just fine.

Any idea why chrome would be so fussy?

Is there a way to change the module so that it always uses the full url?

    Hi earthson!
I take it you are using the most recent version of Ja Twitter~ 1.1.2. Please confirm
Please review these backend settings for Ja Twitter to be sure all is configured correctly.

    Hello again Earthson
in addition to Blaine’s excellent advice, while you infer it’s an chrome problem, can I ask if you have checked in both Internet Exploiter and FF to see if it’s a unique problem or common to all browsers?

Given that I can insert the twitter.com/intent/follow?screen_name=LaughableNews into both major browser manually and it works.

If it’s a chrome problem you may have to look at the ja twitter code and perhaps manually code the http:// if the latest version doesn’t support it.
    Cheers Shane

Hello. Yes, I am running the most recent ja_twitter version. I have the settings now set to the screenshot example. No luck.

@shane – I’m running mac, so I’m not sure about IE. FF works. It is just chrome. And, if I just copy/paste the url twitter.com/intent/follow?screen_name=LaughableNews into chrome, it works. But, for some reason, if I follow the same url by clicking the button, it doesn’t work

    Hi earthson!
Clear your cache on the browser. I just do not get that error. See my screen shot.

    Hey Shane,

Well, after clearing the cache, it still doesn’t work. But, if I open an incognito browser window, it does work. So it has to be a setting within chrome…I’ll keep tinkering. But at least I know it is probably working for everyone else.

    Hi!
First, my name is Blaine not Shane (giggle)
Second, I have used Chrome and have no issues. I really believe this is a user (local machine) specific issue.
Please consider FORCING a clear with the CTRL + F5
    Thanks!

    Sorry Blaine… :-[ Haha

    I tried forcing a clear…still a problem. Oh well.

But seriously, you guys are working too hard on this. While I appreciate the effort, I think you could spend your effort on more serious things…I’d hate to tie you up on trivial garbage like this twitter thing

Well, until it’s marked solved, we won’y be happy.
Have you tried another machine to see if the results are the same?
I’m going to ask some other mods to take a look.
    Thanks
