Changed my file to .htaccess

Works perfect will all other sites but not with this one.

Any help would be appreciated.

With this case you need to contact system admin your hosting enable “mod_rewrite”

Sorry here’s a bit more detail. mod_rewrite is enabled.

In public_html there is a .htaccess and an htaccess.bak

Can I rename or delete these files and start again?

Problem solved. Just patched from 1.5.21 to 1.5.26 which also fixes the hacking vunerability.
