I just enabled multiple languages on my site and for some reason the navigation menu disappeared. I am trying to find out exactly what module position the menu appears in by default to see if I have the right one, so I added ?tp=1 after my site but it doesn’t show a module position, just top.mainnav which are from the CSS. Is it position-7 is there a place where I can see what areas all the positions correspond to for this template?

    Please advise.

    Hi tworld

Could you provide a link at your page ?

    Thanks

When I switch the menu to a different position, i.e. user1, I can see the menu again, but when I put it back to [what I think is] its original position, i.e. position-7, then the navigation menu doesn’t show anymore like it used to as default. The CSS wasn’t changed throughout this whole process, so I am still confused as to what happened.

Yes, this is exactly what I mean. What did you change?

In your Template Manager Profile Tab you have assigned your new profile to all pages
In your new profile you had as menu not the main menu but about us

this often happens when we create multilanguages sites i don’t know why joomla changes the menu assignments in the profiles maybe this could be a Joomla bug

Ok, that may be a bug in Joomla, but it still doesn’t work properly because when I switch to French by clicking the flag at the top right, the English menu disappears, but the French menu is not put in its place. It also looks like the Ores template is not multilingual-friendly. There’s definitely a problem that’s causing the menus not to switch when I change the language of the site.

    Hi

You can do in this way

You can create another profile French and assign the Main menu French at that page Home french

So you can solve your issue

If I understand this correctly, this means that every time I add a new page, I have to go in the template and manually assign a new profile to it, correct? Doesn’t the default Joomla template do this automatically?

Here we are talking about the multilanguage function that is a Joomla specific function the template is another thing

the Joomlart template can help you to obtain what you are searching in multilanguage function making an override of your pages

<blockquote>every time I add a new page, I have to go in the template and manually assign a new profile to it, correct?</blockquote>

    No it’s not correct

    Only in this specific case

    <em>@pavit 278680 wrote:</em><blockquote>No it’s not correct

Do I only need to create a new profile and attach it to the HOME PAGE menu item for a new language? For example, let’s say I add a new menu in Portuguese, I will need to do this step again, yes? But, if I add a new sub-menu in the French menu item, because I already have a profile attached to the HOME PAGE menu item in the French language, I don’t need to do this again, is that what you mean?

If you add a new language in this case Portuguese then you must make a new menu with the Home and the other items

you can create a new profile portuguese and in this profile you must assign in menu settings>Menu Type >Portuguese

then assign this profile at the portuguese home page that’s all

you must do these steps for all new languages

Ok, that makes it clearer now, I only need to assign the new profile for the every new language to that language’s defined home page and that’s it. Cool!

Thanks a lot for your help with this pavit.
