Why do module positions not load when loading a page linked from the a main menu item “external link”

Only modules that are set to load on “all menu items” will load on pages that are loaded from “external link” menu item.

The external link needs to link to the article and the item id. For example…

http://yourwebsite/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=18 Will only link to an article.

http://yourwebsite/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=18&Itemid=51 will link to the article and the Itemid which controls what Modules are shown on that page.

To find out the Item Id create a menu link going to the article you want the external link to go to. Click this menu link and copy the URL to your external link and delete the menu link. Hope that makes sense.

There is probably an easier way but thats the way I do it.

Note to forum mods: The ability to turn off auto parsing of links in posts would be good.
