My site has been working fine but overnight the links to all single articles has stopped working – 404 error. Modules are still linking fine. e.g. click "about us" from main menu. I have not made any changes to the articles that have stopped working.

Hi
The problem is because the articles category is unpublished by you .
For example > About us > http://prntscr.com/acj1cy
This article is under the Pages category but its unpublished > http://prntscr.com/acj1ps
So you are getting 404 error . You need to publish the article category .to solve it.
