February 11, 2011 at 6:41 am #160033I’m using JA Lead on a website, and have been doing some cross-browser compatibility testing to make sure everything is working well before a big advertising push.
Turns out there is a big problem on IE browsers (works beautifully in Firefox, Chrome, Safari), where the main menu (moo menu) is using a strange gradient in the background that makes it very difficult to read.
The gradient is black in the top-left corner, and fades to completely transparent in the lower-right, unlike on the browsers where it works (nice, solid transparent gray). This lets you read the first menu item or two, but then it’s just the drop-down border and text, making it much too difficult to read.
I’ve searched these forums at length for an already posted solution, but came up with nothing.
Please tell me what I need to do to make my menus look in IE the way they do in Firefox, et al. I hate IE as much as the next web developer, but until we can convince everyone to stop using it, I have to make it work. Your help is greatly appreciated.
This site is live, so please consider this urgent. I will also take out a Trouble Ticket for this issue, (like I said, it’s urgent,) but I am hoping that if I post it here also, someone out there will know a quick fix.

February 11, 2011 at 7:35 am #376143As far as I can determine, the solution to this problem lies somewhere in the ie.php file within the css directory… but since I’m using handwritten_light, perhaps I’m editing the wrong file?
The transparent gradient that’s causing the problem is caused by these lines right here, yes?
#ja-cssmenu li ul {
filter:progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src='<?php echo $template_path;?>/images/trans-bg.png', sizingMethod='scale');
background-image: none; -->
}Ugh, Microsoft filters… evil. But commenting out these lines and adding a different background doesn’t seem to do anything. Am I editing the wrong file for the handwritten_light version of this template?
Your speedy help is MOST appreciated right now.
Obviously, you need the URL so you can see what I’m talking about: http://www.worstgig.com
You’ll be able to see the difference between IE and Firefox right away.Matt

February 11, 2011 at 2:16 pm #376212Well, apparently, that *did* fix my problem, but no matter how many times I cleared the cache on this computer, the problem persisted.
When I look at my site after removing the aforementioned lines of code on a different computer, it looks fine in IE now, as well as the other browsers. Problem resolved. *sigh* Sometimes my stubborness pays off.
I’d like to suggest to the decision-makers at Joomlart that these lines of code be permanently removed from the download and demo. It’s a cool effect ONLY when used on solid colors that are nothing like the font color in the menu, and since they’re drop-downs, they’re almost never going to be on solid colors. Instead, they’re going to be overlapping content or slideshows, or any number of things that will conflict with the menu being readable. Form should never trump function. Okay, that’s my rant for now. I’m exhausted. Goodnight.

February 11, 2011 at 2:24 pm #376213I too have seen this same problem on a couple of JA templates of that era (LEad and Quartz) but only on one IE8 machine. On all others I viewed it on everything was fine so I assumed it was just that IE machine that was the root of the problem.
