I have always used Joomlapack for this. Created a backup of the local install, unziped the file created then FTP’d the contents to the server. Joomlapack gives you an installer simlar to Joomla….

It’s worked everytime for me, without any problems

and then pull up the url —will it connect automatically???

hey i threw it up so to speak and connected with the database… the site pulls up fine though terribly slow right now–got some work to do to optimize it… i can’t get to the administrator page…

any idea why? here is the error… The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

ive gone in and set the permissions to 777…

I see you managed to fix it 🙂

If you do use Joomlapack, one thing you could do, is FTP it to a temp folder proir to migratng your site to the new one. Then move the files using an FTP client either remote or locally when your ready to install the site.

That way you will reduce the down time on the site because the files are being copied locally and not remotely….. Just a thought
