July 16, 2009 at 8:27 am #142796I have downloaded the Trial for the Jobboard and installed it on a test domain to see how it works and what it can do, now here my questions:
1) You write that it is multi-lingual via the Language Cutsomization, and I see the second language file and can translate this. However how do I translate for example a category? A job posting? or the locations ? Do I have to create two entries for each? Like an English BEIJING and an Chinese version of the word BEIJING?
2) In the front, do the Modules automatically switch to the second language if the language file has been translated or do I have to translate them?
3) If I have to create double entries for the categories / locations for the different languages, how can I make sure only the second language entries are shown when switching languages in the front end?
4) Does the system support double-byte languages (like simplified Chinese)?
5) The Developer Membership says ALL Templates and ALL extensions, does this mean this extension (that’s what it is) is included in the Developer Membership as well?
6) There seems to be a problem with the software and IE8, as when I switch to JOBS from the mainmenu error messages galore come up, and my browser switches automatically to COMPATIBILITY VIEW and than the site looks cluttered…
That’s it for the moment in questions, will come back if I have more while testing the software out.
Thanks
Heiko

July 16, 2009 at 6:08 pm #311309Hi Heiko,
I would like to answer your question as below:
<blockquote>
1) You write that it is multi-lingual via the Language Cutsomization, and I see the second language file and can translate this. However how do I translate for example a category? A job posting? or the locations ? Do I have to create two entries for each? 3) If I have to create double entries for the categories / locations for the different languages, how can I make sure only the second language entries are shown when switching languages in the front end?</blockquote>
You can install JoomFish component which will help the translation of such items. I have tested with module translation and I think it is fine with category.
<blockquote>
<blockquote> 4) Does the system support double-byte languages (like simplified Chinese)?</blockquote>
I haven’t had a chance to test. However, if the language is supported by Joomla then things are fine with the component.<blockquote> 5) The Developer Membership says ALL Templates and ALL extensions, does this mean this extension (that’s what it is) is included in the Developer Membership as well?</blockquote>
The extensions access of JA Developer membership is for the extensions belong to JA Extension club. JA Job Board is an independent extension with independent pricing structure which is detailed at the Job Board homepage
<blockquote>
6) There seems to be a problem with the software and IE8, as when I switch to JOBS from the mainmenu error messages galore come up, and my browser switches automatically to COMPATIBILITY VIEW and than the site looks cluttered…
</blockquote>I will get it tested and provide updates bug fixes in the next update, at the moment we will release new release/updates every 2 or 3 weeks.
<blockquote>That’s it for the moment in questions, will come back if I have more while testing the software out.</blockquote>
Thank you very much. We are very happy to listen to your feedback. Please let me know if you have anymore question.

Hung you should really clarify this better on the main JA site as the Job Board Extension is advertised on this page along with all the ‘Extension Club’ extensions. It’s very misleading and is bound to cause plenty of ‘negative’ posts in the pre-sales forum.

I don’t like to sound overly confident, but that clever I was to install Joomfish and test it and NO, it does not let you translate the categories nor the locations and for the Modules all I can translate is the actual Title of the Module. I tested this with the following modules:
mod_jalist_jobs
mod_jalist_employers
mod_jafilter_jobs
mod_jalatest_resumes
mod_jarecent_viewed_jobs
mod_jafeatured_employer<blockquote>I haven’t had a chance to test. However, if the language is supported by Joomla then things are fine with the component.

Once in English and once in Chinese? Would really appreciate an answer on this as this is the most important part for our site…
Thanks

I thought they are all JoomFish related questions. In fact, with JoomFish you can translate most of the content data from database, not just from ini files (eg: core joomla article or job details of JA Job Board) , so you can be sure that both English + Chinese are fully supported at your site.
Please let me know if you have any question from your testing so far.

Did just that and still NO TRANSLATION option via Joomfish !!!

Sorry, but also not possible with the latest versions of the Jobboard script and the latest Joomfish. There are just no options to translate anything, except the ini file, not within Joomfish nor with the direct translation option in the Back-end, it is not even active, as soon as I start the Jobboard Adninistration..
Also, after a bit more testing, under IE 8 the filter breaks the tab/IE8 now completely (closes the TAB or IE8 with error message to Microsoft)…. And if I switch on the compatibility mode for IE8 it does not load the Filters at all and shows script errors galore…
Any chance you can fix this, I really would like to buy this extension, but it needs to be working first…
Thanks,
Heiko

I know how to install Joomfish and I know as well about the part of the Language Customization, however that is not the point, the issue is not to translate the COMPONENT itself, it is a question to translate the Job Board content items to be used like Location, Categories etc… and they can not be translated via Joomfish at the moment, as they are and can not be part of the .ini file and no direct access to these items is currently made available… That is the problem, as otherwise when in the front-end somebody switches to the second language all Locations / Categories remain in the default language, instead of the second language and that is actually worst than no translation at all…
Again, thanks for trying to help, really appreciate it.:D

August 5, 2009 at 2:24 am #313278I’m very sorry, I forgot one step. After JoomFish is installed, extract all files in Joomfish_jobboard package into <site root>/administrator/components/com_joomfish/contentelements folder, then you can translate the JA JobBoard component.

Hi Heiko,
I have just put the JoomFish package into an independent package and you can follow the step 9 & 10 to fully translate your job site into multi language.

August 7, 2009 at 7:15 am #313586Ok, thanks to both of you Sam and Hung…
It seems that after these installations via the Joomfish translation module I can translate the content elements … even though it does not yet work via the DIRECT translation link in Joomfish, but honestly that does not matter much right now …
Hung, Any chance you guys sorted out the IE8 issues?? As the guys in China (for whome we make the website) all use IE8 already …
Thanks,
Heiko

The demo has been updated several time with the latest build of JA Job Board during last 2 weeks & seems working fine on my IE 8 at the moment.
Is the IE8 issues solved on your site? You can submit a ticket via your Member Area if you need our developer to look into your site for you.

August 7, 2009 at 10:15 am #313594Hello Hung:
The problem I have is that I installed it using the Quickstart option and when you do this how do i update to the lastest version …
My version was installed 7 days ago and there the issue is not yet fixed yet…
The problem I have is that when I try to uninstall the JA JobBoard Component only, it brings me error messages that it can not uninstall the component and if I just re-install the component it writes ALL SAMPLE data back into the database and I aneed to start from scratch with the customizxation ….
I just downloaded the lastest version right now and replaced just the JAFILTER_JOBS Module as this seems to bring the problem, but still the same, it crashs IE 8 even after this update…
I as well tried your latest demo site and have the same problem there with IE8. I just tried it from three different computers who have IE8 installed, just to make sure it is not something on my IE installation….
Thanks
Heiko
